How Red Cube is creating the most electrifying nights on the West Coast

If you’ve been to an electronic music event on the West Coast, chances are you went to an event organized by Red Cube. The company is one of the largest production companies on the West Coast. It has been responsible for some of the largest electronic music events in the Portland & Eugene, OR, area. Red Cube has carved a stellar reputation for itself, having organized and produced over 2000 events and sold nearly ten million Dollars in ticket revenue. 2023 will also mark the company’s 20th anniversary. Red Cube has accomplished these feats with the help of an energetic and enthusiastic team and a highly talented roster of resident DJs. In addition to producing and organizing thousands of events, Red Cube opened its own venue, 45 East, in Oregon in 2016. The venue has since become the premier 21+ dance music venue in the state, booking over 150 events annually. The story behind Red Cube’s inception is very interesting. The company’s founder, Paul Song, was introduced to the underground rave scene in the late 90s after attending his first warehouse party. The culture intrigued him, and he quickly fell in love with the community. A year later, Paul decided to pursue a career as DJ and produced his own event to open for his favorite artist, DJ Icey. The experience was enlightening and contributed to Red Cube’s eventual formation on August 9th, 2003, at the Ohm Nightclub. Paul was hosting an event called Ice Break, and the venue sold out, hitting the club’s capacity within an hour of doors opening. Paul was enthused by the response, especially as people approached him at the end of the night to thank him for organizing the event. It was when Paul decided to take Red Cube to the next level.

However, organizing events isn’t simple. In addition to the logistical challenges involved, organizers must often deal with bureaucratic red tape, and Red Cube was no exception. In 2013, Portland stopped allowing Red Cube permits to host dance music events in larger venues. As a result, the company had to skirt this issue by holding events in smaller venues until they regained the city’s trust. Finally, in 2019, the City of Portland allowed Red Cube to return to larger venues. Red Cube’s first return would be held in the Portland Expo Center. Since then, the company has also curated a new Halloween festival, Freaky Deaky Portland. In addition, the production company also brought back Moonlight Masquerade, an NYE weekend festival.

Since its inception in 2003, Red Cube has seen successful event after successful event and seeks to outdo each past success with something new, something bigger, something better.
