Movement Maestro Roye Gold Shares His Golden Insights into the Beauty of Movement

Movement culture became more notable when Roye Gold’s ex movement teacher Ido Portal played a hand at introducing London Reel’s Brian Rose and the iconic UFC fighter Conor Mcgregor to the world of Movement. From here, Movement culture seemed to be more notable among many athletes alongside their chosen field. After training under Ido Portal for 10 years Roye Goldschmidt, went his own way, opening Movement School Movement Israel & becoming an inspiring Movement coach whose moves leave his 500k Instagram followers mesmerized.

Seeing Movement experts for the first time may make you wonder what an abstract form of human “fitness” routine this is. Are they dancers, martial artists, gymnasts or acrobats? In truth, Movement is an approach that combines elements from each of these genres into a broad, holistic exploration of human motion potentials and restrictions. “It’s not an easy task to describe Movement. Moving, not moving, breathing, meditating, playing sports, dancing or doing martial arts, etc.,” explains Roye. “It’s a big universe that contains all kinds of planets. That is why the chase after movement is a never-ending journey. Movement is endless,” he adds.

Roye trained under Ido Portal for more than ten years before becoming a coach himself. Being a 20-year-old professional swimmer serving in the military, Roye realized that he was more inspired by the world of movement  than swimming. “During this time, I found myself more curious and passionate about Movement than my actual sport. It was then that I decided to quit swimming and devote my life to Movement and Movement education,” reminisces Roye, who has been teaching movement for over twelve years now. His initial goal of finding a way to make money swiftly evolved into a burning passion for sharing his knowledge with others. He eventually fulfilled his dream by opening the world’s first movement school, ‘Movement Israel’.

Unlike other competitive sports or activities, such as gymnastics, ballet dance, martial arts etc., which generally require practice from a very young age, Movement can be learnt by anyone regardless of age. Roye was 20 years old when he started out. “You don’t need to be at a certain level to work with me, I accept all levels. You just need to be ready to practice on a daily basis, Anyone at any age can start his own movement journey. The only requirements are to own a body and a strong will to take this path” explains Roye while emphasizing on the no-restriction policy of movement culture. He further went on to say that in order to excel and become a skilled mover, all one needs is a strong will & to train daily with a great teacher “You must commit to the process and walk the path. I can, and I will give you the best of me, but I can’t train for you. There are no magic powders.”

When asked whether you can participate in other activities while being a mover, Roye responds, “As I mentioned earlier, Movement is everything. So, no matter the class I’m taking, if it’s boxing, dancing or swimming, I am still practicing my movement.” In his opinion, the beauty in Movement is that it will translate to other fields as well. One discipline supports the other. According to him, the fascinating element about Movement is that it’s a never-ending journey that keeps one committed to it. You might spend years perfecting one maneuver, but there are countless others that you’d be terrible at. Having endless options, Movement allows you to be true & humble with yourself at every corner.

As far as ‘Movement Israel’ is concerned, it offers basic Movement classes for beginners with no Movement background. “What you learnt outside doesn’t matter, you’ll be learning a new language, and you need to start with letters before you can write sentences,” comments Roye about his fundamental classes. When it comes to coordination, he suggests juggling tennis balls is a great tool to develop hand-eye coordination. “The reason I chose this task is that Juggling is one of the best tools for hand eye coordination that teaches you rhythm as well. I saw uncoordinated people that became coordinated in so many fields thanks to this tool” Roye claims.

If you browse through Roye Gold’s Instagram handle, you’ll find him to be nothing less than what you imagine a Greek God to look like with his toned body and flexible moves. He is indeed an inspiration for those who want to master the art of Movement. Roye’s relentless pursuit of new Movement skills and sheer dedication has allowed him to carve a niche for himself in the world of “fitness” and we’re excited to see how his global events unfold in the coming months.
