Uses & Applications of Conveyor Belt System

Conveyor belt, a part of a Conveyor system, is one of the most widely used material handling machines. This mechanical device is used across several industries for moving goods, raw materials, and other products from one point to another. Conveyor belts are mostly used for speedy and efficient transportation of materials and mass-produced items within the same area or building. In addition to this, conveyors are also used in supermarkets, airports, and shopping centers for transporting products and heavy luggage. Even some restaurants use conveyor belts for moving plates and speeding up their services. So, a conveyor belt is a great mechanical material handling equipment for moving heavy goods and other products. But what exactly it is and how it works.
What is the Conveyor System?

Conveyor systems are used for material handling by packaging, manufacturing, and other industries. Besides moving mass-produced items, it is also used for transporting materials like grain, sand, coal, ore, etc. The system consists of a belt made of thick material and two motorized pulleys. The motors in the pulleys move in the same direction and at the same speed so that the belt can move and objects can be transported. The longer conveyor belts may also have rollers on the sides for support. There is a wide range of conveyors that are used for different applications. Depending on the applications, different conveyor belts have different configurations and specifications to accommodate the specific purpose. Unlike other types of conveyors, belt conveyor uses less horsepower to move goods. This means that it is more cost-effective to move goods.

Conveyor Belt Uses & Applications

Conveyor belts are used to replace the manual handling of products. This system of rotating pulleys and belts is used by manufacturers and other industries that need material handling solutions.  Today, from pharmaceuticals and food processing to air travel and retail, conveyor systems are used across many industries. Each industry uses a conveyor system differently to suit their specific needs. For instance, conveyor belts at airports are used for loading and unloading passenger luggage. On the other hand, the food processing industry used this system for spreading, stamping, slicing, or glazing products. Likewise, the pharmaceutical industry uses a conveyor belt for moving boxes or palates of medical supplies.

The main purpose of a conveyor belt is to transport a large number of items over a distance. It helps in streamlining the manufacturing or packing process by speeding up the movement of raw materials or products from Point A to Point B. The device also helps in reducing labor work that results in more efficiency and fewer accidents. The belt can be moved vertically or horizontally to increase productivity, as well as protect workers from injuries. In addition to workers’ safety, the mechanical movement of goods also keeps the products safe.
