Did you know an estimated 93 million Americans are at risk of serious vision loss? Only half of them have visited an eye doctor in the last 12 months. Vision health is extremely important and going to the eye doctor often can be preventative for diseases.

It is always best to visit an eye doctor often to stay on top of any symptoms. If you haven’t been to the eye doctor in a while but are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may need glasses.

1. Blurred Vision

Do you have difficulty seeing anything clearly? Maybe you can’t see in front of you very well. Or you may not even realize you have blurred vision until the moment you put on glasses but have some other symptoms.

2. Double Vision

Diplopia is also called double vision. Double vision can sometimes be the cause of an underlying issue. If you are seeing double, it is best to get to an eye doctor such as eye doctor, Dr. Julia Giyaur, MD as soon as you can. If the eye doctor deems it not serious, you may just need glasses.

3. Headaches

Headaches are a common sign you need glasses. Headaches are a major symptom of eye strain. When your eyes are working too hard to keep up, glasses can take a lot of pressure off and, your new glasses will start to give your eyes a break.

4. Squinting

If you stare at a screen for most of the day like many people, you may find yourself frequently squinting. Squinting makes it easier to focus on a single object but also causes eye strain.

5. Tired Eyes

Do your eyes feel heavy? Maybe you struggle to keep your eyelids open or, your eyes just feel exhausted after a normal day. You may also have trouble seeing properly with tired eyes. Give your eyes a break and get checked for glasses!

6. Objects With Halo’s

At night you may see halo’s around cars or street lamps. Halo’s are commonly a sign of a vision problem. This can be caused by astigmatism, nearsightedness, or farsightedness. It could also be a more serious problem like cataracts.

Next time you are taking a walk or are driving at night, try to notice if lights have halos, if they do, it may be time to take a trip to the eye doctor.
