While most people may immediately think of Summer hotspots like Hawaii or Australia when surfing is involved, there are actually many more surfing hot spots around the world to appreciate. Below is a list of our top five surfing spots in the world in case you ever want to visit for an unforgettable surfing trip!

Table of Contents

  • Pipeline, Hawaii, USA
  • Supertubes, Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa
  • Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia
  • Manu Bay, Raglan, New Zealand
  • Pasta Point, Maldives

Pipeline, Hawaii, USA

There are many incredible surfing spots in Hawaii, but the most famous and enjoyable one by far is the Pipeline. Literally the homeland of modern surfing, the Pipeline is known for its breathtaking scenery as well as the local community’s unmatched beach energy.

However, there is a caveat – Pipeline waves are extremely difficult to surf. Only the most practised surfers can ride the waves in the Pipeline safely, as their waves are some of the heaviest in the world, and can reach up to six metres high over a shallow reef. Riding the waves on the Pipeline is a dream come true for most surfers – however don’t be too disappointed if you never get the chance, as there are many other great surfing spots available to you around the world!

Supertubes, Jeffrey’s Bay, South Africa

Surfers can look to the Supertubes in South Africa for a long, fun ride on the waves. With rides up to 300 metres long, Supertubes is one of the best right-hand surfing locations in the world. According to CNN travel, the Supertubes waves offer long and fast barrels off an intense point break.

Surfers can also visit many other popular surfing hotspots around the Supertubes for a complete watersport experience. Locations such as the Kitchen Windows, Mangna Tubes and Boneyards are accessible through the Super Tubes.

Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia

Of course, we have to include one of our favourite hometown surfing spots. Located close to the border between New South Wales and Queensland, Byron Bay is an accessible location for surfing enthusiasts. Most popular with European backpackers, as well as celebrities like Chris Hemsworth and Zac Efron, Byron Bay is a small town filled with vacation homes, bars, and all sorts of entertainment activities.

With waves stretching up to seventy kilometres wide, Byron Bay is a surfer’s paradise with many other water sport activities to offer. Byron Bay is also known for its huge shark necks and remnants of a sunken ship.

Manu Bay, Raglan, New Zealand

Although many may think of mountains and flora-centric scenery when it comes to New Zealand, the country also has an amazing surfing spot worth checking out. Dubbed as ‘The Endless Summer’, Manu Bay is where all the action happens in an otherwise quiet region.

The waves on Manu Bay can range from one metre to three, and are known for their occasional intense barrel as well. Surrounded by a series of local pubs and cafes, the surfing experience at Many Bay is one of the best in the world.

Pasta Point, Maldives

In addition to being one of the best honeymoon locations, Maldives is also perfect for our surfing enthusiasts. Pasta Point is one of the most famous surfing spots on the island, and uniquely offers left-hand rides in addition to your common right-hand ones. Surfers at Pasta Point can also enjoy a hundred metre ride in a pure water tube.

Excited to travel around the world to visit all these surfing spots? Start preparing with all the appropriate surfing gear. When it comes to safety and comfort, Jetpilot offers some of the best wetsuits for men and women in the market
