It is widely believed that armoured vehicles aren’t just employed by celebrities or politicians in order to evade the undue attention by the public whilst they are travelling. Such vehicles are multi-dimensional and are often utilized by individuals and companies alike to provide transportation of precious items as well as large sums of cash. These armoured vehicles are also known to transport individuals and items which are best kept away from the common knowledge of the public. Needless to say, such items are fraught with a great deal of dangers and risks and for them to be transported in ordinary, unarmoured cars is simply out of the question. Among the positive features of armoured vehicles are that they are entirely secure, bulletproof and could even withstand harsh temperatures. The article below will demonstrate just how different an armoured car is different to a regular one.

  • Difference in terms of the raw materials

Raw materials are primary variables which goes into the production of armoured vehicles and which later constitute the vehicle as “armoured.” Everything from the doors, the walls and even the ceiling for that matter are produced entirely from steel which is both stainless and galvanised steel alike. Such raw materials lend a sense of longevity while turning it into a protected vehicle for transportation services. The steel is made in such a manner that it is safe from rust and corrosion. There is also hardening of the steel to enforce resistance from oncoming bullets. This process can be carried out in two different ways i.e. either you treat it with heat that is high or by adding nickel and chromium at high levels while the forging process is going on. While there could be certain regular cars which may have also been created from stainless steel, the extra processes that goes into making them bulletproof is absent in the production of unarmoured vehicles. Another factor would be that unlike in the case of regular cars, the windows of the armoured car are constituted of various layers of automotive glass. To add to this, the lining of the armoured car is carried out using fiberglass cloth.

  • Divergence in the design

During the manufacturing stages of unarmoured vehicles, the safety and the sleek design are two factors are which hold an equal amount of importance and in certain cases, one could very well gain precedence over the other. But in the case of armoured vehicles, much of the emphasis goes into ballistic resistance. This can be exemplified when producers of the armoured vehicles utilized hardened steel for its body and the thickness will vary according to the level of resistance that is needed. In the case of the windows, they will be made from laminated glass that are bullet resistant and have the ability to withstand exceptionally high temperatures and intense force.

  • Other important features

New technological developments has enabled the glass to be made even more resistant and powerful, even while maintaining its necessary light weight. Additionally, there’s a plethora of other minor details which are given emphasis to during its manufacturing and designing. For example, the windshields are typically kept at an angle of 45 degrees to provide assistance in deflection by reducing the wind resistance, if ever the need arises.
