Every year, Internet scammers get ready to try us. They still didn’t get that we are actually pretty smart, that they won’t catch us anymore, and that we actually laugh every time a scam arrives to our phone. Still, I know, some people fall into the trap. This is why we are going to explain you the 5 most famous WhatsApp scams of the year. Please, next year try to be a little bit more careful!
1 The new emoticons
Everybody is obsessed on having new emoticons every single day. Well, lucky you, some have finally arrived, but, at some point of the year, there was a scam message saying “Look how cool this emoticons for WhatsApp are…” . The plan was to re-send this message to 10 friends (you could also do it by SMS), click on “continue” and voilà, virus! This was just in November, and people was so happy to send new things that the scam had a big and quickly success. They were just looking for data from you and your contacts, so, again, careful!
2 Voice message on WhatsApp
In this case, we would get an email saying that we’d had a voice message. The virus will get at the moment we tried to download the “message” that one of our contacts had sent us. Of course, WhatsApp would never send you an email with such a message. So, don’t open it!

3 Coupon discount for filling out a survey
As we said before, the main goal is to get people’s data. No company such as Ikea or McDonald’s has gifted their clients with coupons. Still, many people got the message on behalf of them. Names such as Zara, H&M or Starbucks were used to swindle lots of people all around the world. They would just get the message from another friend and at the moment they’ll filled out the survey… yes, the information was sent.
This was supposed to be the last and best version of WhatsApp. If you signed in to this “Trendy Blue” version, you would get personalized options but, actually, you were subscribing yourself as a user in a special service which was not exactly cheap. This is the main reason you need to always take a look to the official sites, that’s one of the reasons they exist! Don’t believe the first thing you get.
This scam started in 2014 and repeated in 2015 and it’s a good punishment for trying to gossip! Scammers know that many times we would like to read our friend’s messages so they make up some fraudulent apps, but don’t be naive, they don’t work.
