A working toilet is something no home can do without. If you find yourself being plagued with repairing the same toilet, then it may be time to consider replacing it.

Minor problems and repairs are normal, but if these happen ok a regular basis, it indicates a bigger problem. Signs of leakage or cracks can take time to appear but once they refuse to go away, it’s time to replace the toilet. Constant problems with the toilet can lead to the need for regular repairs, high water bills, as well as damaged floors in the long run.

Look out for these eight signs to see if you need to replace your toilet

Table of Contents

  • 1. Fixing the Same Toilet Every Week
  • 2. Nonstop Clogging
  • 3. Cracks in the Tank or Bowl
  • 4. A Wobbly Toilet
  • 5. Older Toilets
  • 6. Flushing Problems
  • 7. To Reduce Water Bills
  • 8. Buildup of Deposits That Can’t be Removed

1. Fixing the Same Toilet Every Week

Do you have to repair the toilet in the same home at least once a week? Minor repairs are usually enough to keep a toilet working but if it isn’t enough, it’s a sign that the toilet needs replacing.

Paying for repairs can become expensive for the client if you have to do it again and again. If the repairs are not working and the toilet continues to cause problems, it’s time to replace it.

2. Nonstop Clogging

A clogged toilet isn’t abnormal but it’s not supposed to get clogged every other week. If you find that your toilet is clogging frequently or that it’s clogging without any reason, it may be better to replace it.

Older toilets tend to need more than one flush. This could also be a reason to switch to newer, more efficient models.

3. Cracks in the Tank or Bowl

A serious sign that your toilet needs replacing is visible cracks in either the bowl or the tank of your toilet. You may initially notice this in the form of water leaking on to the floors.

Over time, the floors can become irreparably damaged. It’s also a massive waste of water and can result in higher water bills. If you can’t find any cracks despite looking for it, drop some dyed water into the tank and the bowl. If the leaked water’s color on the floor is dyed, you’ll know it’s time to get a new toilet.

4. A Wobbly Toilet

Usually, a wobbly toilet is caused by screws coming loose. A minor repair can easily solve this issue but if this happens often, this indicates that you need to install a new toilet. You should get the toilet replaced as soon as you can as the toilet’s wobble can damage the floor around it.

5. Older Toilets

Older toilets need a lot of repairs. They also waste more water per flush. You need between 3-5 gallons of water per flush in older toilets, compared to 2-gallons in newer efficient models.

They have more scratches that have developed over time. These are hard to clean places where pollutants and bacteria can gather. Recommend replacing an older toilet to promote a more eco-friendly and efficient alternative. Newer toilets are also less of a burden when it comes to water bills.

6. Flushing Problems

A toilet can face two kinds of flushing problems either the water won’t stop running, or it won’t flush at all.

If the water is constantly running, then this will increase your water bills. The water is wasted, and the sound of nonstop running water can be unpleasant to some people as well. While this doesn’t warrant immediate replacement, if the flapper valve inside the tank is damaged, you may need to replace it.

Another issue you can face is when the toilet won’t flush at all. A non-working toilet will need to be immediately replaced, especially in homes.

7. To Reduce Water Bills

High water bills can be a source of distress. It’s also not necessary when better alternatives are available. A toilet replacement is a good way to avoid spending more on bills. Over the long run, paying the water bills will cost more than replacing the toilet.

8. Buildup of Deposits That Can’t be Removed

This is an issue pertaining to areas that have hard water. Such water has minerals in it, which can deposit in places like the siphon tube. Over time, these deposits can become impossible to remove. While you can try to scrape away as much of the deposit as you can, you may need to replace the toilet if the buildup is large.

Replacing a toilet is hard but necessary work. It’s also necessary to look after your future. That’s why  Public Liability Australia has insurance packages for plumbers to support your business.
