MyPascoConnect, or MyPC as it’s abbreviated, is a tool that allows the Pasco County School District to securely manage its large network of teachers, students, parents, and employees in one central location. The platform boasts an intuitive interface and powerful features that allow the entire district to communicate more effectively and efficiently than ever before. This article will take a closer look at the benefits of MyPascoConnect and how it integrates with the rest of the Pasco County School District ecosystem to benefit everyone involved.

A brief history of MyPascoConnect
The MyPascoConnect initiative was birthed as one of many recommendations made by ex-superintendent Kurt Browning’s Vision 2020 initiative, which sought to improve education in Pasco County. This app is designed to foster collaboration and communication between all school stakeholders, including students, teachers, parents, and administrators.
The idea for an app came about after officials realized that many parents were already using text messaging and email to communicate with their children’s teachers. By creating an official district-sponsored communication platform that can be used both on and off-campus, everyone involved can feel more connected than ever before.
Overview of its features
Teachers can use it to request school supplies, communicate with students, create classroom lessons and grade assignments. Students can use it to access their attendance records and schedule, see what class they have next or if they’re tardy, as well as make meal requests. Parents can sign up for digital alerts that notify them of anything regarding their child. Administrators can manage all aspects of their school and staff on a secure and easy-to-use platform.
The system is also integrated with MCPS’ food services provider, Insight 360, which allows parents to monitor their child’s cafeteria balance. If funds are low, parents are sent an alert so they can replenish these accounts quickly and easily using any credit card or PayPal account. The app also allows parents to view menus from past days in case their kids missed out on something particularly delicious!
How does it benefit the students?
The students will be able to communicate with their teachers, school and district administrators on an easy to use interface. They can also access their grades, academic information and complete assignments. Through Mypascoconnect, they can now take part in parent teacher conferences as well as announcements regarding activities happening within their school. This is done by using an active communication platform called The Newsfeed, where everyone (students, teachers, employees and administrators) are free to post anything for others to read.
It becomes easier to stay updated on what’s going on around you by following your friends and getting updates from those who matter most. Students will feel more connected to what’s going on inside of their schools because of its vibrant social media-like features. Also, there is nothing more comforting than knowing that everything being posted and shared has been moderated appropriately just for them!
Is it safe for schools?
While MyPascoConnect seems like an innocent (and necessary) addition to help schools streamline their processes, it also seems like it could be ripe for hacking. Earlier in 2017, approximately 700 school districts had to shut down their computer systems after discovering they’d been hacked, and the FBI is currently investigating.
Additionally, there’s no way to tell whether or not anybody has breached security within any of Pasco County’s networks already; if they have, there’s no way to find out who—only that someone was there. So far, though, Pasco doesn’t seem too concerned with their potential vulnerabilities—they’re just hoping people will sign up and use it.

Conclusion
With so many different stakeholders involved, you’d be right to think that establishing an effective means of communication was never going to be easy. However, with MyPascoConnect, these concerns are eradicated. The platform is intuitive and user-friendly and has drastically improved collaboration between stakeholders within one of Florida’s most affluent counties.
Of course, there is room for improvement – particularly in terms of accessibility – but that should come as no surprise considering its role in shaping policy as opposed to executing it. Regardless, only two months since launch, we can already see how effective it is proving to be and why so many other school districts are looking to follow suit: It has transformed what was once an arduous process into something quick and easy.
