A broken furnace shut-off valve is a serious problem that must be fixed as soon as it is carried out. The shut-off valve is between the oil supply and the furnace itself. To ensure safety when working on other parts of the furnace, the shut-off valve stops the flow of oil, hot water or other material that the furnace uses to create heat. You can contact a furnace repair expert or simply do it by yourself. Repairing a broken shut-off valve is an easy process but requires special attention to detail.

Step 1: Determine the correct size of the shut-off valve.
Before you start opening the supply line pipes for your furnace, you need to make sure you have the right valve to replace the old one.
Step 2: turn off the source
In many cases, the supply line will have a main shutdown that will interrupt the flow of oil, gas or other material. Unplug it before carrying out any work on the shut-off valve that requires repair or replacement.
Step 3: shut off the valve.
Place a bucket or other container to catch the fluids that are in the line. Use the pipe cutters and cut the valve as close to the valve as possible. If you are not sure about the size, or type, of shut-off valve you needed, now is a good time to take the valve to the hardware store to compare.
Stage 4: Clean the ends of pipe
Use the emery cloth to clean the ends of the cut pipe. Clean the ends of the new valve before putting it on the line. Any dust, residue or other dirt contaminants can damage the seal or damage the furnace.
Step 5: Adjust the shut-off valve on the line
After the pipe ends are sanded and cleaned, place the shut -off valve on the line. Push the pipe ends into the valve as far as possible. This is to ensure that the valve fits. Remove the shut-off valve and apply a little flow around the outside of the tubes. Install the tubes in the valve again.
Step 6: Weld tubes together
Turn on the propane torch and apply heat to the shut-off valve’s junction and the supply pipe. After a few seconds, touch the end of the weld on the pipe. When it is hot enough, the weld will melt and wrap around the joint, making a seal. Repeat this process with the other end of the valve.
Step 7: Connect the Main Valve
After the shut-off valve has been installed, go to the main network and reconnect it. Please turn it on slowly in case the shut-off valve leaks. When the valve is fully open, connect the new shut-off valve. If the shut-off valve is not leaking, you can turn on the furnace for heating.
