Offering a complete and successful onboarding process is critical if you’re hoping to retain new hires. After all, you’re making your first impression as a new employer! But what steps should you take to ensure that everything goes smoothly?

Read on to learn how to create a successful employee onboarding process!

Make the Most of Preboarding

Once new workers have signed a contract, they’re ready to hit the ground running. But first, they’ll need to fill out lots of paperwork. Use the two weeks or so before their first day to tackle this business.

Have employees fill out a W-2 form and direct deposit forms. Make sure their online profile is updated, and help them get connected to the company email platform. You can even assign training modules they can complete at home.

Roll Out the Red Carpet on Day One

When you hire workers, you want them to feel welcomed to the office right away. Pull out all the stops on their first day so they know you’re excited to have them. Send a companywide email blast with a short bio and headshot to get started.

Invite them to lunch with team members. Do introductions and provide a welcome kit. This can include some company swag, like a t-shirt.

Talk about workplace expectations, too, but don’t cram too much into that first day. And let them know about upcoming events, like company holiday parties, where they can continue building community.

Provide a Mentor During the Onboarding Process

It’s wise to provide new workers with mentors during onboarding. This can be a person in a different but parallel role. Avoid choosing a superior since doing so might prevent a new hire from feeling a sense of trust.

The mentor can provide insights into company culture. And they can provide a friendly face for questions. Ask a mentor to schedule monthly meetings with their mentee over lunch or coffee.

Track Progress with Software

During the best onboarding process, you’ll feel organized. And especially if you’ve just hired multiple new workers, you’ll want some business tools to track progress. Is everyone in the payroll system and have they completed required training modules?

Turn to Innovative Employee Solutions for an effective way to stay on top of things. You’ll be able to track anything from employee progress to recruiting efforts.

Dig into Training

The actual training component of a successful onboarding process should be mapped out over several weeks. In fact, it could even take months. But the key is to have an itemized chart that you can share with new workers.

Involve other staff in this process to help a new hire learn names and roles. And ensure that weekly meetings with a manager are part of onboarding to get started.

Offer the Best Onboarding Process

When you streamline your onboarding process, you stand a better chance of building company loyalty. You also help new workers feel confident and accepted in the company community. Stay organized, map out a training schedule, and be compassionate throughout the process.
