An HVAC system is the lifeline of every office and home in Canada. Considering the unpredictable weather conditions, it is more obligatory. A properly functioning HVAC creates a comfortable temperature indoors and does a commendable job in lowering your energy bills.

Generally, your HVAC setup can last anywhere from twelve to fifteen years, and if you give it the maintenance it needs, you can prolong it even further and avoid spending on its expensive replacement. In short, if you take care of your HVAC, it would take care of you.

Here are a few tips, which if you follow, can help you enjoy great years of HVAV service –

  1. Schedule Semi-Annual Maintenance

In Canada, it is pretty easy to overstress the heating systems during long chilly winters. As your HVAC is used more and more, the energy-efficiency tends to go down, and utility bills shoot up. And without proper maintenance on the go, the average life of your HVAC gets highly impacted. So, the best way to prevent catastrophic and costly failure is to arrange HVAC tune-ups every six months and do a close inspection.

  1. Clean the Outdoor Unit

The electronic component of your HVAC unit in your backyard that looks like a cube with some coils wrapped around can accumulate a lot of dirt, dust, debris, and leaves. This can obstruct the airflow and hamper the efficiency of your air-cooling system. Thus, outdoor unit cleaning makes an important part of your HVAC maintenance that only an experienced technician can carry out.

  1. Check the Air Filter and Duct

For any HVAC system to be working effortlessly, you need to have smooth air circulation. And for that, it is important that you clear off the vents, filters, A/C fans, and other passages. Usually, your HVAC technician would do that in semi-annual checkups, but a quick look over and clean up every three months is advisable. Dirt-free air filters and dustless ducts will surely perform better and cause less wear and tear.

  1. Pay Attention to Insulation

Using the best of the HVAC models but not wall and window insulations aren’t going to do you any good. You will just strain your unit in order to maintain the cozy temperature inside. So, before you derive any conclusion on your HVAC’s effectiveness or think of replacing it entirely, you will have first to inspect your residence or office insulation. Your attics might be the one to blame after that.

  1. Give It Some Time Off

Like any other mechanical system, an HVAC tends to drain out with constant usage and require a break. In fact, a lot of upgraded models have an auto-cut feature and some even have a smart detector that switches off when your specified temperature is reached. Those who don’t have that option or don’t wish to invest in one, for now, can simply switch the HVAC off before leaving home.
