it’s transitioning to the post-pandemic period, and you’ve been feeling a little under the weather for a few days now. You think it might be time to see a Ham Lake, MN doctor, but before you make an appointment, you do some research and realize that you may have a viral fever. What should you do next? Here are six ways to break a viral fever. Begin by seeking guidance from a Ham Lake fever specialist.

  • Table of Contents

    • Hydration is Key
    • Rest and Relax
    • Use a humidifier
    • Combat Fever with Medication
    • Stay Warm
    • Tepid Sponging

    Hydration is Key

One of the best things you can do for yourself when you have a viral fever is to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of fluids, especially water, and avoid caffeine and alcohol, dehydrating you. Drink soup and eat fruits and vegetables to get additional fluids.

Drinking fluids helps your body function properly and can help reduce the severity of some symptoms associated with a viral fever. It is crucial to drink fluids even if you don’t feel thirsty to stay hydrated.

  • Rest and Relax

Your body needs rest to heal, so make sure you get plenty of it. Go to bed early and sleep in if you can. Take naps during the day. Reduce your stress levels by taking breaks throughout the day, reading a book, or listening to calm music. This is where you avoid movement in any way possible.

  • Use a humidifier

A humidifier can help loosen congestion and make it easier to breathe. If you don’t have a humidifier, take steamy showers or baths to get the same effect.

Dry air can irritate sinuses and lead to a stuffy nose that makes breathing difficult. Purifying your indoor air will help safeguard against allergens and bacteria, reducing the effects of dry air. It also dries out the skin, causes static electricity, leaves hair with less body, and reduces resistance for illnesses like colds and flu.

  • Combat Fever with Medication

If your fever reaches 102 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, it’s time to take some medication to bring it down. Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are both excellent options. Follow the instructions on the package carefully to make sure you’re taking the correct dose.

Although over-the-counter drugs are available to treat fever, it is always best to seek guidance from your doctor before taking any medication. Your doctor will be able to recommend the best course of treatment for you and can also help you determine if your fever is caused by a virus or something else.

  • Stay Warm

A fever can cause your body to lose heat, so staying warm is essential. Dress in layers and keep your home or office at a comfortable temperature. Drink warm fluids and eat warm soup to help your body maintain its heat.

The heat helps boost circulation and allows the body to fight infection more effectively. It also encourages sweating, which can help cool the body down.

  • Tepid Sponging

If your fever is high, you can try tepid sponging to bring it down. Soak a washcloth in cool water and wring it out until it is just damp. Place the washcloth on your forehead, temples, or back of your neck. Leave it there for a few minutes and then repeat with a fresh cloth.

Although there are many ways to break a viral fever, it is crucial to seek guidance from your doctor before taking any medication. Your doctor will be able to recommend the best course of treatment for you and can also help you determine if your fever is caused by a virus or something else. Drink plenty of fluids, get rest, and stay warm to help your body heal.
