Marketing Mindset
For the top percentile of marketers, talent is recognized early on. This was the case for Josh Henry-Hicks back in 2008 when he graduated from his Brisbane, Australia high school with an immediate interest in all things business.
He enrolled in the University of Queensland Business Management program with a focus on ecommerce and international business, setting the tone for his career pursuits from square one.
But the university workload wasn’t enough for Henry-Hicks, who also stepped up as the digital marketing manager for the independent Australian fashion brand Dissh – that same year.
Henry-Hicks soon moved on to his next role as an ecommerce specialist with skate/surf fashion brand City Beach Australia. Here is where he affirmed his passion for marketing analysis, UX, fulfillment, and the many other aspects of ecommerce.
From Student to Master
By the time Henry-Hicks graduated university in 2012, he already had four solid years of real-world ecommerce experience under his belt, on top of his freshly minted bachelor’s degree.
At this time, he leveled up at City Beach into a marketing director role, managing everything from social media and affiliate marketing to direct response email and promotional offers for the company’s 65 retail locations.
For nearly three years, Henry-Hicks helped City Beach grow to new heights of revenue and popularity, while he mastered the ways of digital marketing across all major platforms.
This was certainly a “wild-west” phase of ecommerce marketing on sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, ready for someone to lead the way. Henry-Hicks seized the moment, and devoted himself to discovering and mapping best practices from trial, error, and non-stop analysis.
Henry-Hicks points to his time at City Beach as one of experimentation, excitement, and the experience that set the stage for his move to the US and ongoing success.
Innovator and Thought Leader
In December of 2016, Henry-Hicks flew overseas to become the senior campaign manager with MuteSix, an award-winning digital marketing and creative studio in Los Angeles.
Unsurprisingly, Henry-Hicks once again rose through the ranks at MuteSix, helping hundreds of clients scale and grow to unprecedented levels of revenue and recognition.
Focusing on video ads for social media, Henry-Hicks has identified formulas that hook viewers and draw them in for compelling offers and quick conversions.
Combining his analytical prowess with a sharp creative edge, he continues to wow clients at MuteSix as VP of paid social in 2021.
