India becomes very popular and it has grown in terms of churning out much Startup news every year. But in this growing world, the women entrepreneurs of the country are yet to come, step up and grab the opportunities of their success story. In today’s era when the government talks about girls’ empowerment, the Indian women have been missing from the startup scenes completely. As per the economic survey 2019-20, amongst 27084 operational startups in India, only 405 women have a director. To figure out this fact that, in the women entrepreneurship ranking 2019 India recently got 52 ranks out of 57. The government always conducts an event to promote women empowerment so women can take a strong decision.
If we talk about why women are missing from India’s startup stories then there are several reasons. In this article, we will discuss some of the reasons so let’s began.
Reasons why women are missing from the startup scene
According to the innoven capital that is venture debt and lending platform show women entrepreneurs has decreased from 17% – 12% between 2018 and 2019. It happened because the lacks of family support few options of funding and fewer opportunities. Along with these, a lack of an institutional support system also is the biggest reason. Because of it the result is, in early discouragement and – even at the small work.
As per the report of a survey conducted in 2018, only 13% to 14% of Indian business is led by women. It doesn’t mean that we forget some women who grab the opportunity and lead startup and make several startup stories like dr Kiran Mazumdar, falguni Nayar, Rashmi Daga, and many more. The female entrepreneur is rare and few in between.
However, the government took a step forward for women and launches many schemes like ‘startup India’ but these schemes are not enough to attract women. In this patriarchal society, people think that women can’t be independent and they impose many familial and marital responsibilities. This is the reason women forget their existence because of this responsibility. Unless family and society don’t support women till then they are still missing from India’s startup news.
Organizations like NITI aayog’s women entrepreneurship platform are started for women entrepreneurship and it accelerated for women in tech initiated with the help of zone startups India, to give all-round and steadfast support for women leaders. But many women didn’t know about it because they don’t know how to access and take its benefits. Most of the women have a lack of knowledge about schemes and they don’t get its benefit.
To bring back women entrepreneurs in India we need some important things like professional mentoring, better representation, support from family, faith in their ideas, focus on smaller online businesses that they run from home, change in overall Indian mindset, and better access to the entrepreneurial network. Our society needs to condition their minds to accept that women should and can take responsibility for their home along with the business. Support every woman if she wants to make her career and make their startup stories. Thank you!!!
