The UK HQ: A Brief History
In 1986, Elta Systems was founded in Haifa, Israel with the goal of developing state-of-the-art missile defense systems. Eight years later, the company made its way to the UK and settled in Warrington. Initially, the company struggled to find a foothold in the UK market. However, under CEO Shaul Lainer, Elbit Systems began to make strides and today boasts one of the most successful subsidiaries within Elbit Systems – Elbit Systems UK Ltd (ESUL).
The origins of ESUL can be traced back to 1987 when Elbit established a research center in Warrington to develop radar systems for use by British Aerospace. In 1996, ESUL became an independent subsidiary of Elbit Systems and since then has developed a range of products and services that have been exported worldwide.
Today, ESUL employs over 1,000 people at its two sites in Warrington and Slough and has a turnover of over $400 million. The company’s success can be attributed to its ‘can-do attitude and commitment to innovation. ESUL is known for its cutting-edge technology development capabilities and has developed numerous ground-breaking products such as the Heron TP Watchdog system which is used by NATO forces around the world.
While the company has faced some challenges over the past few years – notably Brexit – it remains confident about its future prospects and is committed to maintaining its global leadership position within ELBIT SYSTEMS.
