It is very frustrating when the Discord mic stops working. It is a common issue that lots of us are facing these days. The reason can be a few bugs or other external factors. However, in this article, we have provided you with 5 easy steps on how to fix this issue. Keep reading!
Step 1: Update your audio driver
One possibility for this failure can be your old, incorrect or missing audio drivers. It can easily be solved by updating the audio driver. There are two ways to obtain the correct audio driver for your computer, either manual or automatic.
- Manually update the driver – You can manually update the audio driver by visiting the audio card on the manufacturer’s website and looking for the latest correct driver. Make sure to select only drivers that are compatible with your Windows system variant.
- Automatic driver update – You can use Driver Easy to update automatically. Driver Easy can automatically recognize your system and find the right driver for your exact sound card and its Windows system variant and will download and install them correctly.
1) Download and install Driver Easy.
2) Run Driver Easy and then click Scan Now. Then Driver Easy will scan your computer and detect any troublesome drivers.
3) Click the “Update” button next to the marked audio driver to automatically download and install the correct version of the driver (you can use the free version for this).
4) Try sending an audio message on Discord to see if your microphone is working properly.
Step 2: Reset the voice settings on Discord
This problem can also be solved by resetting the voice settings in Discord.
1) Click the “Settings” icon on the “Discord” homepage.
2) Click Voice and Video, and then click Reset Voice Settings.
3) Click OK.
4) Reconnect the microphone, and then try to send an audio message on Discord to see if the microphone is working properly.
Step 3: Quit Discord and rerun it as administrator
You can also quit/restart to solve this problem.
1) Right-click the Discord icon on the Windows taskbar. If it is hidden, just click “Show hidden icons”. Then click Quit Dissonance.
2) On your desktop, right-click the Discord shortcut icon and select Run as administrator.
3) When prompted by User Account Control, click “Yes”.
4) Try sending an audio message on Discord to see if your microphone is working properly.
Step 4: Logging out of Discord
Logging in and out is just a temporary solution. So, for a durable follow the given steps.
- To log out of the desktop version of Discord, click the “User Settings” icon in the lower-left corner.
- Now confirm logout.
- Then scroll down, click “Exit”, and then click the “Exit” button again to confirm. Note that you may need to repeat the process several times until it is recorded.
- After successfully logging out, please re-enter your credentials to log in again and see if it is working properly.
Step 5: Tweaking the Automatic Input Sensitivity settings
Another common situation that causes the microphone to not function properly is that the user has disabled the automatic input sensitivity in the Discord settings. If you have adjusted your voice settings before, you may uncheck the box next to “Automatically determine input sensitivity.”
When this option is disabled, the manual sensitivity bar tends to send the slider to the left. This will cause the Discord app to stop picking up sound from the microphone. This is a quick guide to the whole process:
- Click the “User Settings” icon in the lower-left corner of the “Dissonance” window.
- Then, click “Voice and Video” (under “Application Settings”).
- Scroll down to “Input Sensitivity” and enable the toggle switch next to “Automatically determine input sensitivity” if it is not already enabled. Then, speak into your headset and see if the bar below is steady green. If you glow green during a call, continue to the next step.
- Disable switching, and make sure that the manual slider is somewhere in the middle. If you are manual barbell beating while speaking, that should be fine.
If all of the above solutions don’t work, try reinstalling the Discord app and see if the problem of discord mic not working still persists. You can also get official support from Discord. The development team behind Discord has confirmed that they are looking for a permanent solution to the microphone problem.
