Ecommerce remains one of the biggest markets in the world, with an estimated net worth of $9.09 trillion. If that sounds impressive, you’ll be excited to hear that ecommerce is expected to grow by 14% within the next five years!

Suffice to say, this is the perfect time for businesses to build their online shopping presence. Of course, that’s sometimes easier said than done, especially since there are so many misconceptions out there.

Not to worry, we’ve sorted through the fiction to give you all the details you need! Keep reading to learn the truth behind some of the biggest ecommerce industry myths.

You’re Stuck With Shopify

Shopify is one of the world’s largest ecommerce platforms and its power cannot be overstated. Since it’s such a recognizable brand, Shopify might be the first site a small business owner checks out.

Sure, Shopify is great! It’s easy to use and offers free trials. But it isn’t the be-all-end-all of ecommerce. There’s so much more out there!

Take some time to research Shopify Competitors & Alternatives and see which site best fits your needs. Products like WooCommerce, Adobe Commerce (previously Magento), and Weebly might not have the same name recognition as Shopify, but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth checking out all the same!

Template Sites are Sufficient

One of the coolest things about using sites like Shopify is that you’ll have access to dozens of professionally-designed templates. If you’re short on time or you’re not much of a designer, these templates can feel downright heaven-sent.

With that said, don’t rely on a template for everything. Instead, think of it as a starting point.

Take your template of choice and find ways to incorporate your branding into the design. This might mean utilizing some HTML and CSS skills, but trust us, it’s worth the extra effort to have that sense of brand cohesion.

If you’re not particularly confident in your technical skills and no one in-house is up to the task, don’t hesitate to hire a freelancer. Often, it’s more affordable than bringing in a new designer anyway, and you’ll still get great work.

A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Words

This is another one of those myths that come from the right intentions but doesn’t exactly hold water.

It’s true that to have the best ecommerce business, you’ll want to populate your storefront with high-quality imagery of your products. But don’t forget that your product descriptions are every bit as important.

Product descriptions are a great place to add keywords that can help with social media optimization (SEO). By incorporating SEO into your descriptors, you’ll stand a better chance of showing up on search engines, thus influencing your overall ecommerce KPIs.

So go ahead and give your products a beautiful photoshoot. Just make sure your copy is equally stunning.

Don’t Fall for These Ecommerce Industry Myths

There’s a lot to the ecommerce industry, and it’s so easy to get caught up in all of the myths and legends. Remember that you have more freedom than you might think, whether you’re using a template or choosing a storefront.

Good luck, and don’t forget to give us a discount code when your store is up!
