Creating the Perfect Workspace at Home

Many people have had to adjust to working from home over the last year due to the pandemic, and this has presented new challenges that have made it difficult to stick to their usual routines and focus on the tasks that need their attention. Whether it’s procrastinating with the pile of dishes waiting to be washed in the kitchen or getting distracted by other people who share your living space, working from home isn’t always easy. If you want to change this, below are a few tips on how you can create a perfect workspace at home.

Separate Yourself from Your Main Living Space

If you can, try to allocate a room or a quiet spot in the house as your working environment. If you have a spare bedroom you can transform into a home office this would be ideal, as you can shut the door and close yourself off from the main house. Alternatively, if you have the money to do so, you could look at utilizing your garden area to your advantage. Granny Flats are compact, portable structures you can put up outside and turn into a home office that is completely separate from the main house. They can also double up as a guest suite to create more space when you have guests coming to stay. It’s important to try and separate your working environment from your living space not only to help you focus but also to help you switch off at the end of your working day and unwind.

Natural Light

Where possible, try to let in as much natural light into your home office as you can. Studies have shown that natural light can help to boost your mood and increase your energy levels, which will make it a little easier to cope with being stuck inside and adjusting to your office setting. Position your desk near a window, and allow some fresh air to flow in when the room begins to feel a bit stuffy to refresh you.

Furniture

Sitting at a desk all day isn’t great for your posture, but if your work is mainly computer-based, then you will be spending a lot of time in this position. To give your body the support it needs, you should invest in an ergonomic office chair and make sure it’s aligned properly with your desk, so you don’t need to slouch. It might also be worth purchasing or creating a standing desk that you can switch to at intervals during the day to stretch your legs.

Storage

A messy office makes it hard to focus on your work, as well as creating difficulty if you’re trying to find certain documents or something else you need to complete a task. Make sure your home office is well organized by purchasing some useful storage like a filing cabinet, drawer organizers, pen and pencil holders, etc. A clean workspace will make you feel more productive and less stressed.

There is a big possibility that a lot of businesses will start getting their employees to work partly at home, partly in the office once the pandemic eases, so creating a great home office to work from is worth the investment. Use these tips to help you adjust better to working from home and feel more productive.
