A battery is a very important part of any vehicle. It works as the catalyst for any vehicle to run smoothly. But there are certain things or reasons which make the battery of your car drain out quickly than necessary. Let us see the reasons one by one.

Headlights were left on

Always I repeat always look for your lights first whenever you start thinking that your battery is draining very fast. Headlights are the main reason as to why your car battery is draining so fast. Some cars don’t have the automatic feature to close the lights after you shut the car in such times make sure your lights are off.

Battery is old

Another cause of the drain in the battery may be due to the battery being old and not changed for quite some time now. There are various elements that affect the working of the battery such as weather conditions, your driving skills, the way you maintain your car. All these reasons pile upto hampering the condition of your battery which may cause all the fuss.

Alternatively, you can also use EZ battery reconditioning to revive your existing battery and give it better lifespan as it doesn’t cost much.

Extreme weather conditions

If you live in a very hot or a very cold climate there are chances that these weather conditions are affecting your car’s battery life. Such extreme weather conditions take a toll on the working of the battery. New batteries work fine even in extreme weather conditions but such is not the case with old batteries. Old batteries don’t have the resistance to hold such harsh weather conditions which may lead to them wearing out soon than necessary.

Taking short drives

If you are the kind of driver who does not take out his car for longer journeys then this also may be the cause of the problem. Starting a car takes immense pressure on your battery. Every time you start your car it goes through a process that involves the functioning of your battery. Hence if you are going on shorter trips you are not giving the battery enough time to charge itself which later causes in shortening the life of your battery.

The battery is not charging itself

The battery of your car relies on the alternator whenever you do not take it out for a spin. When you fire up the engine the battery charges itself but when not alternator is the only source of power. But if your source of energy which is the alternator is not in good working conditions it may also cause the running out of your battery life. To be doubly sure always check your alternator as well so that you don’t have to get stuck anywhere due to battery issues.

Whenever your car is off there are certain things which the car battery gives power to such as the clock, radio, or the alarm system. But these do not affect the battery that much as compared to inner lights or bad fuses. Always make sure to look after all these things before planning a long drive.
