Every person in this world has a dream and motive in life which they aspire to achieve and pursue. But life as we know it, is a journey which is full of obstacles, rejection, failures and discouragement, and due to these hurdles, pursuing our dream seems like an impossible task. One could say that life is like a rollercoaster ride, which has its fair share of ups and downs. How we respond to the challenges that life throws at us, defines who we really are. So, all one needs is a courageous mindset,if we have an empowering mindset; we can overcome any and all setbacks and disappointments.
At some point in our lives, we will encounter people who will discourage us and make us question our abilities. We feel that despite all the hard work and effort, we are not being appreciated. It is very difficult to make any progress in life when people in our surrounding doubt our potential. The people who criticize and discourage are often our family members, friends, teachers and colleagues. Due to the constant discouragement, there comes a time when we want to quit and give up, after all, we are human beings and therefore seek approval from others. But eventually we will end up disappointed if we expect others to support us in our personal or professional pursuits. The only person you can count on is yourself. The key factor to achieve success in life is perseverance and an optimistic attitude. There are many great leaders who let their learning define them, not their failures. One suchindividualis Art DiNicolantonio.
Art DiNicolantonio (Art DiNick) is an extremely talented and skillful engineer, who graduated with a degree of BS in Mechanical Engineering from the Villanova University in 1965. Despite many setbacks, he exceled in the field of engineering because of his commitment and dedication towards his profession. He is now a highly accomplished engineer but his road to the top was not easy. During his senior year in high school ,the NJ department of labor gave tests to his entire class for three days. After the evaluation of the tests the department told Art DiNicolantonio that he didn’t possess the skill or have the ability to succeed in anengineering career. But Art DiNicolantonio proved everyone wrong not only by acquiring the BSME degree, but by also securing thetop position in his class. After acing in his academics, DiNick went to work for Exxon as a Lead Engineer for the Reactor Design Group in New Jersey and Texas where he tested his engineering prowess. He contributed to the invention and development of almost 90% of Exxon’s cracking technology, 20 of which were even awarded original patents.
People like Art DiNicolantonio are an example for everyone that we should embrace our failures in order to succeed. We should never doubt our abilities and should never let others pull us down.Somepeople will discourage and criticize us when we want to pursue our passion, but we shouldn’t let the negative opinions of others keep us from achieving our aims in life.Because in the end, it’s not about how hard you fall, it’s how you bounce back.
You can read about DiNick’s journey of achievements and failures in his new book,Choices as Fate Would Have It.
