Tell us more about yourself
I’m Dennis Klaverweide Ceo and Creative director of Klaverweide
I’m 30 years old and I was raised in a little town in The Netherlands called Lelystad in a family of 5 boys.
How long have you been involved in this industry?
Actually, I’ve been in the industry of designing and making clothing since I can remember. I starting designing when I was a little boy of 4/5 years old,
And it never stopped. But the official start of Klaverweide was in 2014.
What makes you different from the other designers?
I don’t feel the need to fit in. I don’t follow trends. I create them.
I never ever been a follower. Isn’t it boring to be the same as everyone else? When you have the choice to be special. So you can be sure that our pieces are unique.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find my inspiration in enjoying the process of making a unique piece. I like to wake up my inner child. When you discovered things for the first time, the joy of first time experiences. But you can only have a first time experience if you get something that you haven’t seen or had before. This is where Klaverweide meets that experience on so many levels. Colors, textures, even the smell of the fresh leather.
What is fashion according to you?
Fashion is for me the freedom to explore who you are. To feed your identity with the attention that it deserves. For me, it’s about daring to be different and unique. Reaching a new level and finding a new/ better version of yourself. That is priceless. And in my eyes the best investment that you can make in yourself and/or in others.
What has been your greatest career disappointment? What did you learn from it?
Haha. I think it’s the same as every entrepreneur. I thought that it would come easy. I had a lot of people letting me down with promises they made but never kept just to get free designs etc. But actually, if I think back, My biggest disappointments are my biggest achievements. Just having you interviewing me here tells everything. I kept going. I never stopped. It made me stronger. I learned to never give up. No matter what.
How do you stay updated with the trends in the fashion industry?
I do watch and attend shows. But just because I enjoy other people’s process in life as well. I’m not a follower so I really don’t do trends.
I just want to give people the chance to be who they really are or want to be. Everyone is unique. You just have to dare to be and to show it.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
It seems easy for some. But in the middle of the growth of Klaverweide. I lost my older brother. Which had me in a deep depression and blocked all creative energy. Standing up from that to fulfill my promise to him is I think my greatest accomplishment so far.
What are your strengths?
My greatest strengths are actually god-given. Everything that I’ve been doing so far added up to me becoming the person that I am. And I am blessed with having these skills. And that Klaverweide can make anything that you can think of because we make the garments ourselves in our own atelier.
How would you define your personal style?
Chaos in a box!
I wear a lot of black. But my designs are very colorful.
I’m a quiet person. But I think a lot.
I love suits and the ways of a gentleman.
But I also love rock. And the ways of a rockstar.
You can describe my style as ying-yang. I believe that balance is key in life.
What’s your dream job?
The one that I have now. I always dreamed of being who I am today. Actually, I always knew I was gonna do something like this. Just didn’t know that it was gonna be such a bumpy road.
Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
In the next 10 years, I see myself having achieved all of the goals that I have set now. What those goals are is something that you will see in the upcoming years. I’d rather show than tell. A good reason to follow me!
