Amateur Surgeon 4
Amateur Surgeon 4 continues Robert J. Traister’s tradition of providing an “improvised surgery” experience. In this game, the players assume the role of a professional trapper, bringing medical care to an island in the Pacific Ocean. The objective of the game is to save the lives of a stranded passenger ship from a hurricane. The first game involves using a crane to hoist an injured person out of the water.
The second game contains the story of an amateur surgeon who has just finished his second surgical procedure. In this level, you help the doctor to save the passengers of a boat that has capsized. A rescue party has arrived to provide aid, but when they realize that the man inside the boat is actually an amateur surgeon, he has sabotaged his own operation. At this level, you help his team complete the final procedure while learning about emergency surgery techniques as well.
Amateur Surgeon 5
The third game, Amateur Surgeon 5, is based on the second book of the series: Amateur Surgeon, written by Robert J. Traister. The story in Amateur Surgeon 4 takes place a few days following the events of Amateur Surgeon 3. You play the part of a professional trapper who saves a woman from drowning. After saving her life, you discover that the woman has been bitten by a rattlesnake. After saving her, you find out that the snake bit her because she bit it during the first surgery she had as an amateur.
The fifth and final installment in the Amateur Surgeon series, Amateur Surgeon 5, takes place on a plane. This time, you are the passenger. You land at LAX, and you discover that your luggage has been mistakenly put on another flight. As it happens, this flight is headed for Omaha, Nebraska, where the world’s largest concentration of snakes is located. The F95 zone game starts with you playing the role of an amateur surgeon who lands in Omaha and then helps the rest of the passengers deal with the snakes that have landed there.
The fifth and final chapter of the amateur surgeon series takes place in New York City, after your plane lands. You find that your luggage has been loaded onto a train and that the whole trip was a scam. You discover that a professional snake-fang specialist has been waiting for you in the airport and performs surgery on you. The storyline here follows the same pattern as in the first game, though with a few twists.
In the fifth episode, we get to meet the main character from the first game: Dr. Isaac, a much more cynical doctor. He makes the same sort of mistakes in his everyday life as he does in the fictional adventures of Amateur Surgeon. One of the things that make the game so enjoyable is the way it keeps you guessing about how a real-life situation can be very similar to the one you’ve seen in a game. For instance, in the first game, you might hesitate to use a scalpel on an unconscious patient, since you didn’t want to accidentally kill him. This time, when you’re playing as the same character, and he’s cut his finger on a live snake, you hesitate to use the scalpel because you know that if the snake manages to move, you won’t be able to save him.
When the credits finally roll, you’re rewarded with an even funnier ending to the story of Amateur Surgeon. Now, Dr. Isaac has officially become an independent consulting business, where he presents medical advice to people who have had accidents similar to the ones in the game. Naturally, he still performs surgeries on people, just like he always has. And just like in the first game, the outcomes of these operations are always laughably ridiculous. One of the more hilarious scenes involves Dr. Isaac giving an example of a real-life case, which you assume was performed by the doctor in the game: a pizza delivery driver gets into a coma after smashing his head on a gas pedal. It’s completely ludicrous, but it also happens to be very close to being true.
