1. He Wanted To Be a Drummer

While he is famed for his unique guitar style and cutting vocals, Josh actually wanted to be a rock drummer when he was a kid.

When an 8-year-old Josh asked his parents for a drum set, they said no. Instead, they encouraged him to play the guitar, even paying for him to get polka lessons. This is the origin of his unusual playing style.

He later joked: “No parent will buy their 8-year-old kid drums unless they’re divorced and trying to get back at their wife.”

2. He Formed His First Band In Highschool

Josh’s dreams of being a rock star started early. In 1987, as a high-school student, he formed his first band: Katzenjammer.

After a few name changes, they settled on the name Kyuss, releasing three albums before disbanding in 1995. While the band reformed in 2010, Homme chose not to join the reunion.

3. Medical Issues Nearly Ended His Career

In 2010, Josh underwent knee surgery for an ongoing problem. He suffered a close brush with death due to asphyxiation following medical complications.

He spent time in intensive care and was bed-bound for 3 months, which led to severe depression. Fortunately, he overcame his issues and started making music again. He later told Rolling Stone that his experiences influenced his work greatly.

4. His Wife Is Also a Musician

Homme has been married to Brody Dalle, frontwoman of The Distillers and later Spinnerette, since 2007. They have two children together.

Although there has never been any official talk of a collaboration, we would love to see these two make a track together. Who knows, only time will tell.

Homme has his daughter’s name tattooed across his heart, and his son’s name tattooed on his right hand.
