Why Should I Choose Awning Windows For My Home?

If it has been long since the last time you replaced your windows, now it is the right time to consider replacing them with new and energy-efficient replacement awning windows or double-hung windows. These highly championed styles of windows will cut down your cooling and heating bills, and add value and new appearance to your home.

However, the process of selecting the new replacement windows is not a cup of tea to many people. It can be overwhelming and time-consuming. And given that there are many aspects to consider, such as materials, features, colours and styles, it can be confusing to many people. Since window replacement is a considerable investment, it is important to do your homework before making your decision. Luckily, apart from awning windows, there are many other styles you can consider, with the right guidance from a professional company such as WindowTech Windows and Doors.

New or Replacement Awnings Windows?

One thing that you have to decide on is whether you are going to use new or replacement vinyl awning windows.

  • New Windows

These are typically used during new home construction or when you want to alter with the shape of the window opening and install a completely different window style. Be warned that this should be done by a professional window installer, as any failed DIY can be detrimental.

While new construction windows are cheaper compared to replacement windows, the cost of labour adds to the total cost since installing new windows require a lot of labour compared to installing replacement windows.

The best thing about new construction windows is that you have an opportunity to entirely alter the look and feel of your house out and inside.

  • Replacement Windows

Replacement awning windows are installed in an existing window opening to replace the old window. Here, the old windows are removed, without interfering with the frame or frame. Replacement windows are relatively expensive than new construction windows, but they don’t require a lot of labour during installation.

However, replacement windows can only be used where the existing frame is in good condition. Obviously, this will be a cheaper option for you, especially considering less cost of labour involved. To reduce the cost, always go for standard replacement windows to avoid costly modifications.

Window Styles

There is a wide collection of replacement windows you can choose from. Here are some of the common styles to consider;

  • Single Or Double Hung Windows

They are pretty common window styles in most houses. Single-hung windows come fitted with two sashes, but only one is operable. On the other hand, double-hung windows have to operable sashes.

Double-hung windows provide excellent air ventilation since you can open both window sashes. They are also best window options where there are pets and children since you can close the bottom sash and open higher top sash for ventilation.

  • Casement Windows

They come with two or more sashes attached by hinges on one side of the frame and opens horizontally by swinging out. They use a lever to operate.

  • Awning Windows.

They operate like casement windows, but instead of being hinged on the sides, they are hinged on the top and open by tilting the window pane from the bottom to the top. They are usually used in the kitchen and basements. Vinyl awning windows are excellent options for people who want to keep windows open during the rainfall.

  • Slider Windows

They are operated from side to side, and they are preferred in areas where the space is limited.

  • Picture Windows

As the name suggests, these type of windows is made of a fixed glass without panes. They offer an excellent view of the outside but no air ventilation. So if you want to use these styles of windows, it is recommended to use them alongside other operable styles such as casement windows for ventilation purposes.

They are commonly used in sitting rooms where light is needed.
