Why is Printer Ink Expensive?

Printer ink is quite expensive, and you have to pay more on ink than the printer itself. Those who use printers on a regular basis will notice that they have paid a lot for the new ink cartridge which appears to be beyond a reasonable range. Buying the cheapest inkjet printer and buying official replacement ink cartridges is the most expensive.

Avoid Ink All Together

PoooliPrint created a portable Inkless Pocket Printer to help bypass this very issue. Printer ink is expensive and harmful to the environment. Print all your favorite photos on the go with a cool mobile app and easy connect bluetooth capabilities.

Why is Printer Ink Expensive?

Inkjet printers are usually very cheap. This is because they are sold at cost or even at a loss; manufacturers don’t profit or in fact, lose from the printer itself. Manufacturers will get most of the money from printer cartridges they buy in the future. Even if the company makes a little money on every printer it sells, it still generates a higher mark up on the ink. Instead of selling you expensive printers, they sell you cheap printers and continue to make money by providing expensive printer ink.

Many printer manufacturers go to great lengths to make it difficult for you to use unofficial ink cartridges by integrating microchips into their official ink cartridges. If you use unofficial ink cartridges or refill official ink cartridges, the printer may refuse to use it.

In the past, printer companies have presented their views, trying to justify the high cost of official ink cartridges and microchips that prevent any competition.

In the past research, it was noted that the printer’s ink must be formulated to resist heating to 300 degrees, evaporate and spray through a nozzle one-third the size of a human hair at a speed of 30 miles per hour and 36,000 drops per second. This is because it should dry on the paper almost immediately.

How you can save money on printing?

In the end, the price of the printer’s ink is something that people are willing to pay to replace their ink cartridges. But we should not fall for the trap, i.e., never buy the cheapest inkjet printer. Research what you require in terms of the printer and then purchase.

These are some ways you can save a lot of money on printing costs –

  • Purchase refilled cartridges – Third-party refilled cartridges are often much cheaper. The printers warn us about this, but they usually work very well.
  • Refill Your Own Cartridges – You can get a DIY kit to refill your own printer cartridges, but this can be tricky. If there is a microchip in the ink cartridge, the printer may refuse to accept the refilled ink cartridge.
  • Switch to laser printers: Laser printers use toner instead of ink cartridges. If you print a lot of documents in black and white, laser printers may be cheaper.
  • Buy XL cartridges: If you want to buy official printer cartridges, you will have to spend more money every time. The cheapest ink cartridges do not contain much ink, while the larger XL ink cartridges contain more ink for just a little more money. Buying in bulk is usually cheaper.
  • Avoid printers with tri-color ink cartridges – If you want to print documents in color, you need a printer that uses separate ink cartridges for all colors. For example, suppose your printer has a “color” cartridge with blue, green, and red ink. If you print a lot of blue documents and use up all of the blue ink, the color ink cartridges will not work; Now even if the green and red ink tanks are full, you can only dispose of and buy new ink cartridges. If your printer has a separate color ink cartridge, you only need to replace the blue ink cartridge.
