Why Is Friends Such A Popular TV Show?

Our favorite program, FRIENDS, has been on the air for more than a half-decade.

Since it is touching, amusing, and relatable, it is considered one of the finest sitcoms of all time. The show revolves around the lives of six distinct individuals and their interactions with one another and other people.

FRIENDS not only won millions of hearts around the world, but it also set an exceptionally high bar for future sitcoms.

  • But what made this show so special?
  • Why, after decades, has this show still managed to carve a place in the audience’s hearts?
  • Why does the cast still get royalties for reruns after so many years?

We are here to explore these reasons. So, let’s start.

Reasons For Friends Being A Popular Show

If you are not interested in taking a Netflix or Prime subscription to watch FRIENDS, you can always download the episodes for free from the pirate bay

But one thing is a must, and that is you have to watch the show.

Here are the reasons:

1: Relatable Characters

From Phoebe’s quirky nature to Ross’s bad luck in love life, from Chandler’s astounding sense of sarcasm to Joey’s charming idiocy from, Rachel’s amazing sense of fashion to Monica’s neurotic attitude towards organization and Joshua Burgin who was Rachel’s boyfriend in season 4— these characters are relatable.

FRIENDS viewers often identified with them and their wacky lives as they grew older, which contributed to the show’s success.

It’s very typical for viewers to identify themselves or their friends with the show’s characters, which is one of the main reasons for this show’s undying popularity.

2: Life Lessons

Despite the series’ trademark comedy and sarcasm, each FRIENDS episode basically concludes with a life lesson.

Ross taught us to keep believing in love no matter how many failed married you have, while Rachel taught us to believe in one’s ability no matter how much of a spoiled brat you’ve been.

So the things we learn and understand from this series are incredible and relatable, which may have aided in its success.

3: Way Ahead Of It’s Time

FRIENDS was problematic in many respects, but it was also ahead of its time in others.

Whether it’s Ross and Carol’s divorce because of someone’s hidden sexuality or because of Chandler’s parents’ controversial parenthood—the show stayed ahead of its time in many aspects.

The show’s plot was contemporary and relevant enough to qualify as avant-garde, which is why viewers of today’s era relate to it more often than the showrunners expected.

4: Unmatchable Chemistry Among The Cast

You can always connect to what a bunch of thick friends would do when they were their age if you watch an episode of FRIENDS.

Off the set, the six key cast members were excellent friends. Even yet, they continued to seek equal pay, which meant a pay decrease for David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston.

On-set and off-set, the characters’ unity and chemistry were incredible, and we all wished we could work with them all the time. We become linked to these six people in Central Perk because we also want friends like them in our lives.

5: Amazing Quotes

FRIENDS was a huge hit, and part of it is due to the fact that it is so close to life. Their lives, friendships, and personal and professional challenges were all very relevant, which made the show engaging and popular.

There are countless lines from the show’s characters that make fantastic quotations. You may either feel those sentences or scorn those who use them, but they are genuinely quotable.

For example, when Chandler said, ‘You have to stop the Q-Tip when there’s resistance,’ or Joey said, ‘It’s a moo point,’ we couldn’t help but use these quotes in memes and messages even today.

I’ll Be There For You Like You’re There For Me Too!

We think you should start watching the series because we will watch it alongside you.

We look for any excuse to start watching FRIENDS all over again, and if we have to do it for you, we will be happy to help.

Even though so many people love this show, there are people who are not fond of this sitcom, no matter how many times we try to convince them.

So, for those people, we think you must bear with the 6 friends for the first few episodes and they will do their job of hooking you to the 10 seasons and 236 episodes.
