Why Diplomas Are Considered Better Than Degrees These Days

The education system is changing and so shall the way we work. With a more flexible, interactive, and collaborative learning style, it seems that diplomas are becoming a better option than degrees for jobs in the workplace. In fact, there’s been an increase in demand for diplomas with employment rates at all-time highs.

With the economy shifting and job opportunities dwindling, it is more important than ever to get a degree. But not all degrees are created equal. A diploma offers more opportunities for employment than a degree does.

Here are a few reasons why people are advocating for diplomas over degrees these days:

More money

A diploma is not just a piece of paper. It is the culmination of years of focused studies.  So, it’s no wonder that a diploma holds the promise of more money. According to research conducted in 2012, diplomas are remembered by employers and human resource departments as much more impressive than degrees. This is probably due to the fact that diplomas offer more verified credits upon graduation than degrees do- 24 months vs 18 months respectively.

Not only is a diploma better for getting paid, but it’s also better for getting a job.

Better job opportunities

Employers seek candidates with a diploma because they are seen as hard-working and dedicated to their craft. Employers are also more willing to take on new workers with diplomas because of the time that is required for future training, unlike degrees.

Better job security

With work experience, education and contacts provided by a good diploma, one could reasonably expect more job opportunities with more pay and better positions in the future. This makes diplomas appear like a great investment to bosses, who are looking for skilled employees who will score them points in terms of profit-and-loss statements.

Faster and more efficient career track

A degree takes at least four years of tertiary education before one could graduate.  By then, the average working professional has changed employers at least five times. In comparison, a diploma is awarded after only 18 months of study. Not only that, but diplomas tend to focus on a specific field of interest while degrees usually combine different disciplines and diverse areas of study which means one has to spend more time figuring out what they really want to do.

More flexible

Diplomas make you more employable because they are flexible (which are very important in today’s fast-changing world). Not only that, but people with diplomas don’t have to worry about where they will get their money from, since employers are willing to pay them just as much as they do degree holders.

Bottom line

While diplomas are not as widely recognized as degrees, they’re attracting a lot of attention from employers who know that investing in qualified graduates with diploma programs is worth every dollar spent.

Today’s economy demands mobility, flexibility, and speed. A degree doesn’t seem to be enough when one may change employers in 3-5 years, but a diploma can be more than enough because it takes 18 months to complete.

In today’s world, degrees are not winning by a landslide anymore when it comes to students’ choices regarding education and work. It looks like the trend is swinging towards diplomas these days! Therefore, diplomas are deemed to be better.
