Why Clients Need A Responsive Website – Not an App?

If you are a web designer, one thing for sure is that the first thing your client is going to tell you is that they require a suitable mobile application for their business needs. If you question yourself and dig deeper inside your mind, you will find that you also have downloaded more applications rather than browsing websites for your various requirements. When clients mention their digital needs, all they want is an application, but it is nothing more than hype.

You will hear from everyone how amazing an application can be and the benefits of it, but when you will use it, you will find that the application is just not made for you. You must have heard that application is the key for businesses in the future, but the truth is it is not. Yes, you read that right.

Where in reality, a client needs a responsive website. Most of the business owners lack that instinct to choose what is best for business. They just study the market from over the top. They think that applications are the golden ticket that will help them to stay ahead of the other companies. Now before any further discussion let’s take a look at some of the basic things.

What Is an Application?

An application that is popularly known as an app among the millennials is software that helps to perform specifics tasks on your electronic device. There are two types of applications. They are – Mobile applications and Desktop applications. When you use an application it runs inside your device’s operating system. You can also use more than one application at a time, this is known as multitasking. An app is made to achieve the goals that a website can never achieve.

Reasons to Use The App

There are two major reasons you might be interested in investing in an app. You need to have at least one of them. The reasons are: –

  • The brand value of the company: The company that is building the app must have enough market recognition and also need to have a good brand value. If you take ‘Starbucks’ for example. They have both an application and a website, but both of them serve different purposes. You can use the website to see the menu of Starbucks and also the price of the products. You can download the app from the play store, app store, and you can use the app to find the nearest store for you. Also, you can get exclusive rewards if you order through the app. Two things to notice here

1) The app is serving a particular purpose of helping the customer to find the store and also get the rewards.

2) The app is just not another version of the website. It is enhanced.

If a customer is just curious and wants to know more, he will just search the website, and if he wants to order, he will use the app, simple.

  • The company itself is based on the app: Take Instagram as an example. It takes the advantage of the phone’s features like the camera, video, audio recorders, etc. Instagram’s sole purpose is to post photos and videos. It is not only a purpose but also their entire business.

Why Creating an App Is the Wrong Decision?

Often people consider the success of Ola and Snapchat and believe that they can replicate the same success model just by creating an app for their business. You can, but if your business idea and prospective fit in one or both the criteria mentioned above. Statistical study says that most of the android and I phone users use 7 to 10 apps per week. The study also says most people download zero new apps per month. The young generation might download 1 or 2 apps per month but most of them are gaming apps. The usual top 10 apps that most people use are big renowned brands like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Gmail, YouTube, Uber et cetera. If your client thinks that the app of his business can break into the top 10 list then either he is living into the world of a dream or the app has some serious potential. If the first one is true then he should invest in web designing.

Even if a man or woman downloads the app, it is very unlike that they will use the app regularly. A report states that the average retention rate of an application is only 3.2% that means that only 3.2 % of people will have that app on their phone after 30 days of installation. And here is one more reason why your client needs a responsive website rather than an application is that only 1% of the top monetized app generate almost 94% of the revenue of all store. If you are unable to convince your client to stick to the idea of having a website, then you can remind them of these statistics.

Why Should They Opt for Responsive Web Design?

A client often said that he needs an application so that people can find the business website and buy their product just by using the cell phone. What the client is looking for is a responsive website design agency that will offer him or her a responsive website design service.

Tell your client one simple thing and also make him or her understand that people do not search for businesses in the app store or the play store. Instead, they simply look for it in their search engines. For example, If a man is looking for a restaurant and he searched for a restaurant in the play store he will probably find games related to restaurants or nothing at all. But if he is not stupid he will simply search for it in his device’s search engine and will get find of suggestions. If a company’s online visibility is limited to an app, it will show a diverse effect on the company’s growth. Apps are great for only those whose business revolves around that. For the rest of the companies, they are just useless.

The data clearly stated that the consumers do not like to experiment with the applications present inside their devices. So it is better to find a responsive website design agency. Responsive website design services can offer their services to provide their clients with a website that will be much more efficient and have much more potential than an application. So stop your client from going with the flow and tell him or her how he or she can take the company to new heights with a responsive website.
