What You Need to Know Before You Visit Big Bear Lake

The Big Bear Lake is ensconced in the picturesque mountain rangers of San Bernardino County in Southern California, about 93 miles from Los Angeles. Tourism is the lifeblood of its economy.  In recent years, the county has managed to strike a balance to promote the destination as a summer capital rather than a ski destination. And the gamble paid off. For instance, about six million tourists flock to this small city with a population of 5,000 residents.

Big Bear Lake also offers plenty of options for accommodations, from hotels, lodges, inns, Airbnb, and other short-term rentals. Another alternative would be Big Bear lakefront cabin rentals, which put you right in the middle of the nature preserve. You sleep at the sound of the water lapping at the shore and wake up to the golden tint of sunrise kissing your cheeks.

There is no finer way to rejuvenate your spirit, especially if you are like the millions of Americans who are stressed out from weeks of self-quarantine due to COVID-19.

What is the Weather Like in Big Bear Lake?

The reason why visitors love Big Bear Lake is the weather. You can experience the perfect weather depending on the months of the year you visit.

However, if you are looking for summer weather to really enjoy the water activities, you can make your reservations for Big Bear lakefront cabin rentals from March to June where the average temperature ranges from 74°F to 88°F.

July to September are the hottest months. In the mornings, you can expect the temperature to be around 90°F, which drops down to around 65°F at night–cool enough to hide under the blankets as you open the windows and let the breeze in.

As such, April and May are closed seasons for most resorts in Big Bear due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, you can still book now for your June or July vacation. Resorts are offering discounts on rental rates for cabins, as well as free cancellations on bookings.

What Activities Can You Enjoy There?

Big Bear is typically associated with skiing. There are so many more activities to do during the warm months. Aside from water sports, you can hike at high-altitudes, swim in the lake, climb boulders and cliffs, zip-line across valleys and ridges, bike on rustic terrain, among others. Finally, after a tiring day, you can heal your body through spa and massage services.

Best Time to Book Big Bear Cabin Rentals

However, you should also know that the most affordable rates are offered during the off-season. For instance, on average, the cheapest months are January to March and from October to November. While December is the winter season, the Christmas and New Year holidays typically mean that all cabin rentals are fully booked.

In conclusion, the best time to visit Big Bear depends on your desired goals. If you are looking to budget your money, then make your reservations for cabin rentals beyond the peak months. For skiing activities, then the winter season would be the perfect moment to plan your trip. Most Big Bear tourists, however, schedule their visits to the summer destination between March and August. You should also keep that in mind if you do not like crowds.
