What you need to know about CBD

You’ve probably heard about CBD lately, but you might not be very familiar with it. That’s why this article will give you a better understanding of what CBD is, how you can use it and other common questions about CBD.

What CBD is

Let’s start this post by looking at what CBD is. CBD stands for “Cannabidiol”. Cannabidiol is a compound that naturally occurs in the hemp-plant. Next to CBD, there are more than a 100 other of these compounds, which are called “cannabinoids”.

Why do people use CBD?

CBD is used by many people as a supplement. But you might wonder why exactly? It’s because CBD has a lot of potential health benefits. For example it could potentially reduce pain, anxiety and depression. On top of that, CBD is a 100% natural!

How CBD is taken

So, how do you take CBD? There are a lot of different product types that contain CBD. The most common one is CBD oil, which comes in a ‘tincture’. This oil is taken sublingual (meaning absorbing it under your tongue). This way it’s absorbed better by your body than when swallowing it.

Besides CBD oil, some other CBD products are capsules, creams, lotions and CBD hemp buds (also called CBD flower).

Each method has its own pros and cons. They can for example differ in convenience, price and potency. Everyone has a personal preference, so you should compare the pros and cons of each method to decide which ones you like the most.

Can CBD get you high?

CBD is extracted from hemp, and therefore a lot of people wonder if it gets you high. This is however not the case. ‘THC’ is the compound in cannabis that gets people high. CBD on the other hand isn’t psychoactive, so can’t get you high. CBD products contain 0 to max 0.3% THC, which isn’t enough to get you high. Because of this max 0.3% THC content, CBD products are a 100% legal in every state of the US and most other countries.

Another common question is if CBD products make you test positive. This can potentially happen, depending on which kind of CBD product you use. ‘Isolate’ CBD products only contain pure CBD, so no other hemp-compounds. Therefore, they contain 0% THC, so won’t test you positive. However; there are also “full spectrum” CBD products. These contain all the compounds of a hemp plant. Therefore these kind of products have stronger potential benefits, but can possibility also make you test positive when taking too much (since they contain a trace amount of THC. Even though this is very little (max 0.3%), it could potentially still make someone test positive. So if you are afraid of getting tested, then go for isolate CBD products, these will never test you positive! Another alternative would be “broad spectrum”. Broad spectrum products contain all the hemp-compounds (just like full spectrum), but without the THC (like isolate). So, broad spectrum has the best of both worlds!

CBD brands

There are a lot of CBD brands on the market. Some are good, but unfortunately there are quite some bad ones as well. That’s why I recommend to look for reliable CBD reviews before buying CBD products. This way you can avoid buying bad CBD products. Bad quality products will work less effective, so make sure you buy high-quality CBD products only.

How much to take

The CBD dosage is difficult to determine, as it depends on several factors: Everyone is different, so everyone reacts differently to CBD. Every condition is different as well. To find your desired dosage, I recommend to start low (only a few mg). Then; wait about an hour, and see how you react. If you don’t experience anything; take a few milligrams more. Keep repeating this process until you’ve found your personal dosage!
