What Options for Straighter Teeth Should I Consider?

Approximately one-third of adults admit they’re not happy with the way their teeth look. Are you satisfied with the looks of your teeth?

If not, is it because you have crooked teeth? People are unhappy with their teeth for many reasons, including this one.

If you’re tired of having crooked teeth that embarrass you, you might be curious to know more about the options for straighter teeth. There are options for having straighter teeth, and here are some of the main ones.

Cosmetic Dental Services

When you suffer from crooked teeth, you might not like looking at your smile. You might feel embarrassed, and you might try to smile with your lips closed.

Fortunately, you don’t have to live with this type of smile. You can do something about it, and one option to correct crooked teeth is cosmetic dental services.

Depending on how your teeth look, a cosmetic dentist might be able to correct some of the issues you have. For example, cosmetic dentists can provide dental implants or bridges to fill in gaps. You can also look into teeth cleaning services with the Invisalign Dentist in paramus for basic cosmetic procedures.

If you have gaps in your smile due to missing teeth, both of these options work well. They replace the gaps by filling them in with artificial teeth.

Cosmetic dentists can also provide dental veneers and crowns to teeth that look bad. Veneers work well for the front teeth, while crowns work well on the back teeth.

Veneers and crowns cover existing teeth. When a dentist creates them, they can make them in a way that looks nicer. When they apply the veneers or crowns to your teeth, they change the way your teeth look.

Crowns and veneers can improve the looks of mildly crooked or misshaped teeth. They also help improve the color of teeth when a person’s teeth have major stains or discoloration.

They don’t work well for correcting major problems with teeth, though. You might need to pursue a different option if you have major problems with your teeth.

If you’re interested in learning more about the options a cosmetic dentist offers, you can schedule a visit with one. They might suggest the services listed here or others.

Traditional Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are another option to consider. This option works well for crowded and crooked teeth. You can get traditional braces at almost any age, and they can correct a lot of problems.

Traditional metal braces consist of several components, including brackets and wires. Each tooth receives a bracket, and the wire runs through the brackets.

Each month, you must visit an orthodontist to have the wires tightened. The slight pressure the system places on your teeth causes gradual movements to your teeth. Over time, the braces force your teeth into proper alignment.

The downside to metal braces is the looks. Teens might not mind the looks of wearing braces, but adults can feel self-conscious about the way they look.

Traditional braces offer several benefits, though. The first is the cost of these braces. Metal braces tend to cost less than other options for straightening teeth.

The second benefit is that they are highly versatile. They work well for fixing most of the common problems that people have. They can correct improper bites and help alleviate jaw pain.

They can spread out a person’s teeth if they suffer from overcrowding, and they can also fill in gaps when a person is missing some teeth.

Lingual Braces

Next, you could consider lingual braces. Lingual braces are not as common as other options, but they exist.

When you get lingual braces, the orthodontist uses the same components as traditional metal braces. The primary difference is that they place the components on the backsides of your teeth.

Wearing these braces takes some time to get used to, as they will feel weird on the back of your teeth. The benefit, though, is that you cannot see these braces.

Adults often consider lingual braces when they want straighter teeth, as they are less obvious to see. Teens can also choose lingual braces, though.

When you compare the cost of these to traditional braces, you will notice that they cost more. They cost more because they involve more work. It’s harder for a dentist to reach these braces because of their location.

Invisalign

One additional option you can pursue is Invisalign. Invisalign is now extremely popular for adults, but many teens also choose this system.

The Invisalign process is very different from other options you can choose when you want straighter teeth. One primary difference is the components used with Invisalign.

Invisalign is an invisible system that shifts teeth with clear aligners. You get new aligners to wear every few weeks, and you can remove them as needed.

You cannot eat while wearing them, but dentists recommend wearing them the rest of the time. You also cannot drink while wearing them, unless you drink water.

The clear aligners that you wear force your teeth to shift. Each set of aligners fits snugly on your teeth. You will feel the tightness of the aligners when you first use them.

After wearing the same set for a few weeks, they will no longer feel tight. When this occurs, it is because they forced your teeth to move just a little. You will then get a new set to wear that will feel snug once again.

Invisalign costs around the same amount as traditional braces and offers several benefits. The most significant benefit is that this system is inconspicuous. People will not see that you are wearing these aligners.

The downside to this system is that you can remove them. If you remove them too much, they will not accomplish their job as quickly.

Compare the Options for Straighter Teeth

When you compare the options for straighter teeth, you might find the one that is best for you. You can talk to your dentist about it, and you can even schedule a consultation visit with an orthodontist.
