Working in a factory, at a construction site, or other industrial facilities often requires moving heavy, bulky items. It’s dangerous and time-consuming, and may not even be feasible consuming to only rely on people to do this work.

Instead, companies use a monorail hoist for this type of work. This overhead crane makes it easier and more efficient to relocate materials within a complex, put items onto elevated shelves or into a storage space.

Keep reading to learn more about differences in monorail design and uses, and how it could help make your job site safer and more effective

What is a Monorail Hoist?

A monorail hoist moves equipment in two ways. It can raise items vertically and horizontally. A trolley mounts to the monorail beam. The hoist moves in a continuous path, which can be as long as necessary.

A monorail hoist can be compatible with almost any building structure including factories or warehouses mines, or cargo storage areas. They can move in a straight line or along curved beams. This allows you the flexibility to create a system that moves items around corners or structural elements of a building that can’t be moved.

The monorails use existing ceiling columns or add in beams for the monorail trolley to run on. The trolley attaches via steel cables or chains. You often find hoists on single girder overhead cranes, jib cranes, gantry cranes, and curve tracks.

Monorail hoists are useful across a variety of industries. Most often found in manufacturing facilities, they are also used in other trades like construction or the coil handling industry.

There are two main types of monorail tracks. Patented track monorails resemble an inverted “T”. Enclosed track monorails are a rectangular track that runs a continuous track along its underside.

What Are the Benefits of a Monorail Hoist?

Monorail hoists are flexible and can be used almost anywhere. They are customized to the specific location and according to the needs of the production line. You can easily add features like hook attachments or other tools to accommodate the items you’re moving.

They are quiet, save energy, and help create a safer working environment. They are simple to install, lightweight, and easy to repair.

The systems are easy to use. They can be manual or electrical – using motors to run the system. The systems can be also automated and use remote controls or other technology. If an operator has a clear view of the entire path, they could remain in one place while moving items from one side of the building to another.

Smooth Moving With a Monorail

If you’re looking for an efficient, fast, and cost-effective way to move equipment or materials, a monorail hoist may be the right system for you. They’re adaptable to any building or facility, so can be built into your working environment with ease.
