Then, using techniques called “sidebands”, this carrier wave is combined with a high frequency to represent the audio frequencies. In FM, this second high-frequency signal is called the “modulating signal” and it changes several times per second. This causes the frequency of the carrier wave to fluctuate also. This allows for a wider bandwidth to be used, allowing for more audio information to be transmitted in a single channel.
