What Can I Do to Prevent an Onslaught of Cyberattacks?

Every day, around 2,244 cyberattacks happen on the internet!

This can be a scary statistic, but that doesn’t mean you’re completely defenseless against hackers. In fact, with the right defense strategy, you can deter them from even considering it!

Below are some good ways you can keep yourself safe from cyberattacks.

Use Robust Software

All devices need to have their firewalls turned on. In addition, they need to have active antivirus software running. This goes for both individual and business devices.

This includes smartphones and tablets as well. As these devices become more commonplace, cybercriminals are refocusing their attempts from purely on desktops and laptops to a good mix.

You’ll also want to make sure these programs are updated whenever needed. The patches ensure any vulnerabilities are taken care of.

Provide Cybersecurity Training

If you own a small business, then you’ll want to provide cybersecurity training to your workforce.

Contrary to popular belief, technology isn’t your first line of defense. Instead, it’s your employees! If they can recognize the warning signs of phishing attempts and malware, then you’ll avoid the whole issue of successful attacks in the first place.

Having a cybersecurity expert regularly update and train your workforce will be worth every penny spent when you don’t have to shutter your doors because of a successful cyberattack.

Implement Access Management

Not every single employee needs access to all networks. So, it may be wise to restrict their access to minimize the chances of something going royally wrong.

For instance, you can make it so only managers have admin privileges. Other workers will have basic access so if their accounts get compromised, nothing of importance can be stolen.

Back-Up Your Data

While backing up your data won’t prevent cyberattacks, it can save your skin.

For example, with ransomware, hackers hold your device hostage until you pay them a handsome amount of money. If you’ve backed up your data, you can just ignore them and revert back to your last backup, before the attack.

Also, you never know if natural disasters might happen. Having additional copies of your data will be handy then.

When backing up your data, make sure you encrypt it as well. That way, if anyone accesses it, it’ll be difficult (if not impossible) to decode.

Subscribe to Managed IT Services

With managed IT services, an expert third-party IT professional will take care of both IT and data security for you.

Not only that, but you’ll also stay compliant and will have an extra copy (or more) of your data. So if anything happens to your files, whether it’s compromised by a cybercriminal or natural causes (such as a fire or flood), you’ll have a backup in your hands right away.

Keep Your Data Safe From Cyberattacks

Cyberattacks won’t be letting up anytime soon. If anything, they’ll only increase in the future!

This makes it all the more important for you to step up your online security and ensure your data doesn’t fall into the wrong hands.
