But, an engaged parking brake also could turn the indicator on. Make sure the parking brake is fully released to confirm that’s not the issue. In some vehicles, this indicator may for multipurpose and can light up for different reasons too. So, read the manual to know its functions in detail.

  • Grinding sounds

Grinding sounds at applying brake could be a clear indication of a bad or damaged brake. It could be for the reason that your brake pad has been worn and what you are hearing is the metal on metal grinding.

In that case, immediately go to a service center or repair shop and fix it. It could lead to a break fail or sudden wheel-lock and cause a deadly accident.

This noise can also be heard due to lack of lubrication in drum brakes or simply a rock caught in the caliper unit.

  • Burning smell While Driving

Burning smell while repeated hard braking can be a bad sign for brakes. It normally happens when you drive for a prolonged time in hot road and hot weather and could be a sign of overheated brake shoes.

If this happens, quickly park your car in a cool place and check the brakes and search for the source of the smell. Also, check the parking brake if it is fully released or not. If you see any smoke, then it might be caliper damage. Don’t drive the vehicle before fixing the brake. Or else, it could cause brake failure.

  • Soft Brake Pedal

If your vehicle’s brake feels much softer which not feels normal, then there is a huge possibility of brake oil leaking. So, immediately go to the repair shop for a check.

  • The brake could fail if brake pads are worn.
