Nowadays with tiles being used in almost all swimming pools, isn’t it hard to imagine a pool without tiles, no matter what look you are planning to give your pool, be it minimalistic or industrial or over a top tropical oasis, the right pool tile can take your design to next level.

But when it comes to decorating a pool there is more to it than meets the eye. Along with giving a splash of colour and a beautiful look and texture to the swimming pool, tiles also helps to protect the pool finish. Patterned tiles can do a good job in checking all these boxes. Negative-edge pools, spa spillways, tanning ledges, and complex water features are architecturally enthusiastic parts of pool designs that serve as an inspiration for a stunning tile. Being able to walk barefoot by the edge of the swimming pool or after stepping into the water ensures a safe, carefree experience. This can be achieved by the use of patterned tile which enhances the aesthetics of the pool as well as ensures safety.

Of course, when the time comes to choose pool tiles, it can get a bit crazy. Categorically going through our preferences we have to consider whether large, ceramic tiles or a mosaic of tiny, glass tiles, modern pool tiles or something more traditional, expensive or cheap and the size of the pool. Let’s look at the different types of tiles from the size and then material perspective.

Ceramic and Porcelain Tile:- Ceramic and porcelain tiles have been staples of pool finishing for decades. These tiles are hand-painted with exciting designs and also in mosaic. Nowadays patterned tiles are found in ceramic and porcelain. They are affordable, durable and available in a wide range of size and colours with different shapes and patterns. They are also easy to maintain and are scratch-resistant, which prolongs their life.

Stone-look Pool Tile:- Subtle and rustic look can be achieved with the help of stone-look pool tile. Just like natural stone, stone-look tiles come in various neutral shades and interesting shapes and textures. Unlike natural stone, stone-looked tile is not as porous and the easier to clean and maintain, thus long-lasting

Glass Pool Tile:- Glass pool tile provides and an unmatched combination of durability and easy care. Unlike other tiles, glass tiles are not porous and thus one does not have to worry much about algae, Mildew or stains. Glass tiles are very expensive and is not a good choice for owners on a tight budget.

Selecting Pool Tiles by Size:- Larger tiles might cost less and they are a good choice if you want to showcase a patterned tile with an interesting design or texture. Smaller mosaic tiles can cost a bit more, but many pool owners prefer the dramatic effect it gives to the swimming pool.

Here is a breakdown of the most popular pool tile sizes:-

6”x6” pool tile:- This is the most common as well as the largest of the standard sizes in pool tile. It is available in a wide range of materials including ceramic, stone-look and porcelain. Larger tile is an economical option and also there is more room for interesting textures and intricate designs.

3”x3” pool tile:- This is a slightly scaled-down version but a great choice. It still comes with plenty of awesome colours, materials and patterns to suit any design.

2”x2” pool tile:- A good, wallet-friendly option you can’t go wrong with is a 2”x2” swimming pool tile which is available in durable, affordable ceramic or porcelain. Make the look classic with a solid colour or add interesting textures or iridescent hues.

1”x1” pool tile:- A perfect ingredient to add some drama to a tour swimming pool is a tiny mosaic tile and one will find a large number of colours to choose from. 1”x1” tiles are generally made of glass which prolongs its life.
