Cleaning your MacBook is a very good idea because it can prevent various major issues that appear in the long run. If your Mac is too slow, the RAM or CPU amounts available are low, or your device is freezing often, then using a Mac cleaner is a very good idea. There are a multitude of things to consider here, and you will find results to be nothing short of interesting.

What should you look for in a system cleaner?

It depends on the use case, but generally you want to know about the reputation of the developer, if the app is safe to download and if they offer specialized cleaning features. It also helps if you can have a free trial, and also check if this is a subscription system or a one-time payment. If there are any extra features, it makes sense to check those out as well.

Paid or free apps

It depends on what you want from the best free Mac cleaners. Some people will find the free apps to be enough. Sometimes though, special features are available in paid tools that are worth a shot. Maintenance features might be free, but extra features like privacy, protective features, etc, could be paid. All of that matters depending on what you are looking for. But in the end, it’s all going to be worth the effort.

Clean My Mac

If you want a great app to clean your Mac, this is a very good option. It provides a very good, in-depth scanning system that will help remove a lot of unwanted files, cache, log files and many others. The app also offers the means to delete older or large, even duplicate files, something that might come in handy. Additionally, you get other benefits like malware protection, along with memory and CPU monitoring, privacy features, setting reminders and scheduling for cleanup, along with others. All in all, it’s inexpensive, but well-worth using if you want to maintain your Mac’s performance at the highest level.

Avast Cleanup

The tool is good if you want to uninstall apps and remove junk files. It’s only going to streamline the way you work and it will help provide a much more consistent result and experience. With that in mind, it’s good if you want to delete browser data along with duplicate files, too. Overall, the quality is good, and they have a free trial as well. However, it’s a bit expensive, something to keep in mind.

Daisy Disk

Some people enjoy using this tool because it allows you to better visualize what’s on your drive based on categories. And thus, it becomes much easier to preview and then delete the stuff that you don’t want on your device anymore. It’s not very complex, and it could appeal to those that want a minimal app. Despite its lack of complexity, if you just want to visualize what you have on your device and remove stuff, it’s worth a look.

Onyx

Onyx has been a great app cleaner for quite some time. What it does is it helps you create a rule set that will clean up your Mac without needing the Terminal. It’s free to use and download, but it does require some technical knowledge. You can’t just go in there and enable/disable stuff without knowing what you are doing. But if that’s not a problem for you, then it’s worth considering for sure.

Disk Drill

The same thing is valid when it comes to an app like Disk Drill. What it does is it allows you to clean up files and ensure your Mac runs faster. It’s not exactly a cleanup tool per say, as it focuses more on data recovery. But it does have a module meant specifically for cleaning up files, which is great. If you want data cleanup and recovery, it could be worth a shot, it has a free version and it’s also inexpensive.

CCleaner

CCleaner is very popular on Windows, and it also has a great Mac version. What can it help with? It allows you to remove unwanted clutter, find duplicate files, and it can uninstall redundant apps as well. It can work very well if you want to uninstall stuff with ease, and the results you can get will be pretty impressive. The best part is that you can remove unwanted files fast, while also not worrying about too much stress on your system.

All of these are some great Mac cleanup tools, and it’s up to you to figure out which is the right one based on your use case. That being said, you do want to check the free version of each tool, before you buy any premium version. A lot of the time, the free version will be more than enough for most people, unless you want some extra features.
