The Expanse series takes place in the future on Mars. A corporate warring has torn the planet apart and survivors are being held against their will in a quarantine facility. One of the characters, a Systems engineer played by Thomas Brodie-Sangster, finds an android named Merrika that seems to be the key to the survival of the humans being held there. The android provides Merrika with some mysterious information that helps her team to plot out a course of action for getting back to the Earth and eventually finding a way home. The first season wrapped up with the second season premiere, called ‘eps2’, where the characters were introduced to the larger world of Mars. I’m not sure if Amazon will release an extended version of the series, or if they will simply continue the exploits of the main characters.
Neil Gaiman’s fine novel Neverwhere is based on a real town called Neverland. In this book, Neverland becomes very important to all of the main characters. The story follows the adventures of three different families as they deal with everyday problems and day-to-day issues that will affect them as they grow more apart. It is an exquisite and charming book that deserves a re-watch or at least a repeat viewing if you missed it the first time.
Another classic of the genre that Amazon has put together is American Gods. It’s an intense and thought-provoking book that just about every contemporary reader will find intriguing. It is a high-quality drama that’s well worth your time and Amazon Prime Video streams it in high definition. It’s one of Neil Gaiman’s best works, and one of the best shows on American television right now.
If you love listening to podcasts, then you’ll love watching Fleabag, the new podcast from the creators of Radiolab. Fleabag features stories from several of today’s top authors as well as some new voices. It’s a fantastic podcast that you can sink your teeth into.
