If your boiler is breaking down and you don’t have hot water or heating, you should call a plumber as soon as possible. While a boiler problem isn’t a life-threatening emergency, it still requires prompt response time.

Table of Contents

  • Having a contingency plan
  • Calling a boiler service in case of an emergency
  • Preparing for a boiler malfunction
  • Signs of a leaky boiler

Having a contingency plan

A boiler emergency can be disastrous for your business. In addition to causing significant productivity losses, it can harm your reputation. Major hotels, for instance, can lose tens of thousands of pounds per night if their boilers fail. Healthcare providers have even suffered if their systems go down. In addition, your business can fail to meet contractual demands without proper hot water and heating. A plan for such situations can help you avoid devastating consequences and ensure your system runs optimally. Your business’s contingency plan should cover all potential risks. This plan should include temporary equipment, connections to critical systems, and regular review and updating of the project. Planning for an emergency will help you respond quickly and minimize damage to your business and stakeholders.

Calling a boiler service in case of an emergency

Regarding boiler emergencies, it’s best to call an emergency boiler service instead of trying to fix the problem yourself. This can save you money and time. While boiler emergencies can be disruptive, it’s much better to call a technician immediately than wait for the problem to worsen. A burst pipe can cause significant damage, and you don’t want to be stuck in a house with water leaking everywhere. Before calling a technician, giving them as much information as possible about the problem is essential; this will help them determine how much the repairs will cost. Also, make sure to find out whether the plumber will charge a service call fee. These fees can be significant, so it’s best to ask the plumber to give you an estimated payment beforehand.

Preparing for a boiler malfunction

If your boiler malfunctions, you must prepare an emergency evacuation plan. You should have maps of evacuation routes ready and practice your project so you can be sure to escape without any injuries. When the time comes, you should contact a professional restoration company that can supply temporary power or a rental boiler for your property. They can also provide services to repair damage caused by spilled water.

If your boiler has a thermostat control, turn it on. Also, make sure your gas supply is working. Your next step is to reignite the pilot light, which can be done by following the manufacturer’s instructions. These instructions are usually available on the manufacturer’s website. Older boilers often fail to work due to a failure of the pilot light, while more modern ones don’t have them at all. A gas or propane backup line is another vital safety precaution. This can save valuable time when fuel lines are cut. For hours, a gas or propane line cut can put a boiler out of service. Even a curtailment program can impact fuel flow, so having a backup fuel source is essential.

Signs of a leaky boiler

Leaky boilers can cause significant damage to your home. Of course, not all of them will spill large amounts of water, but even the small ones can end up causing extensive damage to your home and wallet. These problems can occur due to issues with your boiler’s burner or a buildup of mineral deposits. These deposits can form an insulating layer between the water and the burner. Water leakage can also cause rust and corrosion on the internal parts of your boiler. This can cause electrical components to malfunction. To prevent future leaks, you should schedule annual boiler maintenance. Yearly maintenance helps identify potential problems before they worsen and ensures that your boiler runs at its peak efficiency. If you notice any of the signs of a leaky boiler, it’s a good idea to turn off the electricity in your home. This will avoid any chance of an electric short-circuit or damage to your central heating system. Water spillage is one of the most apparent signs of a leaky boiler, but you can also notice if the boiler stops working because of low pressure.
