What an Automotive Executive Recruiter Needs to See in your Resume

 

Regardless of the type of senior position you’re applying for in the automotive industry, you’ll need a top notch resume that not only lets an automotive executive recruiter know who you are; skills relating to the position you’re applying for must also be showcased correctly.

Before sending out your resume to apply for senior positions in the automotive industry, ensure that it contains the following information:

1. Full Name and Current Contact Information

Although it seems arbitrary to advise job seekers of this, senior level recruiters receive a number of resumes from highly appealing candidates that don’t contain the most basic information such as the applicant’s name and contact details. Your name, current email address, contact number and a link to your Linkedin profile should feature right at the top of page one on your resume.

Ensure that the email address and contact number you include are your personal ones, as you certainly don’t want to be contacted at your current place of employment while applying for a new position.

1. Credentials

Credentials pertaining to the position you’re applying for should be placed between your name and contact details. This will allow an automotive executive recruiter to determine at a glance whether you have the right qualifications to fill the position you’re applying for.

1. Core Skills and Achievements

These should be listed underneath your credentials and can include aspects such as:

• Strategic business planning
• Superb relationship management
• Optimizing budgets and cash flow
• Successful profit and loss management

1. Most Recent Work Experience

When applying for senior positions in the automotive industry, it’s recommended to start your list with the most recent work experience you’ve had or the position you’re currently holding. From there, list any other positions you’ve held in the past 10 to 15 years going from most recent to furthest back.

Most recruiters won’t show interest in work experience going back more than 10 to 15 years, so only include it if it will be relevant to the position you’re applying for and if you’ll be able to keep the length of your resume to two pages at the most.

A section detailing your education should be included toward the bottom of your resume and it’s recommended that you only list the names of colleges or universities you attended, along with the courses you completed. It’s not necessary to include dates or the years that you attended or obtained your certifications.

Before sending your resume out, ensure that it’s been thoroughly proofread for spelling errors and/or typos. You’ll want to present yourself in the best possible way to recruiters and once of the quickest ways to get your resume moved to the bottom of the pile is to have it contain errors.
