India is the most populous country around the world, with more than 1 billion residents. In academia, the country tallies up to 38 million students every year, and they are also known as the world’s most proficient non-native English speakers.

Educational institutions in the country have high regard for students’ ability to write and study effectively. One of the methods they employ to boost academic performance is using India study notes. It is an effective method of ensuring that students will improve their academic performance. The note-taking practice quickly makes studying a breeze, yet not many students incorporate this process in their day-to-day school life.

If you are interested in making study notes, here is a guide on how to begin the process.

Table of Contents

  • Get a copy of the syllabus
  • Recreate notes according to your preference
  • Make it as compact as possible
  • Share study resources

Get a copy of the syllabus

As the saying goes, victory comes only to those prepared to make it and take it. When taking down notes, it is essential to know the critical elements in every discussion, and you can find that through the syllabus. It would be a futile effort to try to write every word that the lecturer says.

Instead, try to get a hold of the syllabus and make your study notes using it as a guide. Identify the highlighted topics per session and draft your notes accordingly. By doing so, you can save time from jotting down irrelevant notes.

Recreate notes according to your preference

While there are several tips on how to make India study notes, there is no such thing as a perfect one. Different students have their preferences when it comes to the format of their study notes. Some prefer making it as colourful as possible using multiple highlighters; on the other hand, others prefer a simple bulleted list.

It all goes down to what study note format makes you learn more effectively. The beauty of note-taking is that it enables the student to recreate it as many times as possible to achieve the perfect material for him/her. So, whether you like it colourful or not, as long as it makes you retain more information, it will be sufficient.

Make it as compact as possible

Study notes make for a great exam reviewer. Instead of cramming down books and video lectures, using your study notes before an exam makes memory retention higher. It also helps calm the nerves as you do not experience the pressure of having to absorb new information in a short period.

As such, your study notes should have their information as compact as possible. Try to rewrite paragraphs into bulleted lists and divide sections. This way, not only are you able to picture the information during an exam, but you can also review your notes accordingly.

Share study resources

If you are new to study notes, you can also share your study resources so that others can help you find the perfect note format. Moreover, there are websites and applications which allow you to share your notes and, at the same time, gain access to others. Through these platforms, you can improve your note-taking ability while learning at the same time.

Using study notes is a severely underutilised method in schools and universities in India. Many students still prefer reading through books and highlighting texts instead of creating their reviewers. Educational institutions must encourage students to develop their note-taking ability.
