Top Three Uses of Beeswax

Winter is coming and your first thought might be ‘where can I buy beeswax online?’ for a range of DIY cosmetic uses, from skincare to a furniture polish around the home. With all it’s natural, antibacterial properties, your body will thank you for choosing beeswax for your next moisturising hand cream or deodorant.

In addition to preparing your skin for the upcoming changing weather conditions, another great use for beeswax is making your own candles at home.

The top three uses of beeswax that can be applied to your everyday life include deodorant, hand cream, and candles.

Why beeswax?

Beeswax is one of the most versatile natural products and is commonly used as a thickening agent, binder, emulsifier, emulsion stabiliser, emulsifying surfactant, skin-conditioning agent, and humectant.

When it comes to the manufacture of cosmetics, Beeswax will not typically clog pores as long as the substance has been used correctly in the formulation process. It will, however, deliver numerous emollient, softening, and other benefits for the user.

Homemade stick deodorant

Beeswax is a great foundation for a fast and easy homemade deodorant stick that works a treat! This recipe will make two sticks in less than 10 minutes. A natural beauty recipe from N-essentials is a great guide on how to use these products for the maximum benefit of all ingredients.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3/4 oz beeswax
  • 2 oz coconut oil
  • 3/4 oz shea butter
  • 2 Tbsp baking soda
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup arrowroot powder
  • 10-20 drops tea tree oil (or other essential oil)

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Weigh the beeswax, coconut oil and shea butter into a glass measuring cup.
  2. Place in a small saucepan with a couple inches of water and simmer until the oils are completely melted.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in baking soda, cornstarch and arrowroot powder. Then stir in tea tree oil.
  4. Pour into 2 empty deodorant containers.
  5. Allow to harden before use.

Moisturising hand cream

Our hands are busy most times of the day and help us with hundreds of things every day from lifting to touching to dragging. No matter what you use your hands for, you practically expose it to the elements constantly, especially if you are not wearing gloves at work. Even at home, when you consider all the soap and detergents and washing agents that you use to clean the house regularly, it is easy to see where all the skin dryness comes from. This dryness can cause inflammation of the skin, some bleeding, blistered fingers, and dark knuckles.

Some of the benefits that you get from a moisturising hand cream include:

  • Restoring the skin’s lipid levels which helps to encourage vitality
  • Rehydrating dry, callused hands to improve their texture and feeling
  • Improving skin health and comfort

Homemade moisturising hand cream is most effective when the ingredients are natural, environmentally friendly, and sustainably sourced. N-essentials is your one-stop shop for everything you need to make a quality, effective moisturising hand cream for your friends and family. Making hand cream is easy and an informed choice of quality ingredients will result in a cream that is not greasy and works fast on your skin through easy absorption. Here are some of the ingredients you need.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 1/8 cup sweet almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon beeswax
  • 10 drops myrrh essential oil
  • 10 drops cedarwood essential oil

Simply melt the shea butter, beeswax, and sweet almond oil all together and stir the mixture as it melts. Once all the ingredients are melted, you can remove it from the heat and allow it to cool for 5-10 minutes. Viola!

Beeswax is a beneficial ingredient as it’s known to be a naturally occurring humectant, beeswax can draw water from the air unto your skin to keep you moisturised for long. It also reduces the amount of grease in your hand cream. If you want your hand cream to look creamy instead of whitish, a nice tip is to use yellow golden wax.

DIY beeswax candles

Candles indeed make a delightful addition to your home. The faint glow and flicker of a candle create the perfect cosy mood to relax and enjoy. However, there are a number of limitations associated with the use of regular candles. Paraffin candles are created from substances that release toxins into the air and can pollute your home with artificial chemicals and fragrances. They also emit carcinogens into the air like toluene and benzene.

Well, we have the perfect natural alternative that not only allows you to enjoy the golden glow but also purifies the air. If you are a candle-lover and eager to enjoy the aroma and ambiance created by candles, why not try making your own beeswax candles at home? Beeswax candles serve as an air purifier and have been used for centuries to fill spaces with a gorgeous aroma.

Beeswax candles make a healthy alternative to paraffin candles, with their ability to cleanse the air. When burned, beeswax produces negative ions. As opposite charges attract, the negative ions emitted by beeswax combine with the dust, dirt, and chemicals. The newly formed particles are heavy and are pulled down to be swept away or vacuumed. In this manner, beeswax cleans the air naturally and improves the quality of air of your home. Natural beeswax candles do not have any synthetic ingredients that can cause adverse reactions. Moreover, they burn longer than regular candles.
