Benefits of indoor plants

This article will talk about the various benefits you can get if you plant shrubs in your office. There was research in 2014 in Australia, Netherlands, and the UK to study the long-term effects of planting indoors. The workstations in those 3 countries were closely observed for several months before they concluded that office plants bring positive effects.

The greenery helped increase employee satisfaction in the workplace, improve air health, and increase the concentration level of employees. Moreover, the productivity of the workers also increased by almost 15% because of simply adding some plants. So, when people find it very lethargic, stressed, and boring in the office, greenery can be a way to deal with the problem.

  • Stress reduction

The Journal of Physiological Anthropology study says that greenery makes humans feel more soothed, comfortable, and natural. So, indoor plants in your home or your workstation can comfort you and lose your stress. During the study, 2 groups of people received tasks to repot a plant or complete a short computer task.

Research showed that the people who did gardening had lower blood and pressure and thus low stress levels. On the other hand, though the other group of people was masters in computer, still their stress level rose. So, greenery can lower both your psychological and physiological stress.

  • Boost productivity

A study by the University of Exeter in 2014 proves that productivity jumps by 15% with some addition of office plants in the workplace. Moreover, another study says that the employee’s memory retention rate increased with the addition of just one plant in each sq meter. They also scored more in basic tests than normal times.

It is important to keep the plants in vision from everyone at their desks. In this way, people will feel a psychological engagement and will thus feel stress-free and perform better. Also, greenery generally makes people happy, and nature lovers also boost up and feel at ease.

  • Reduce your sick leaves

There was another study in 2015 by Human spaces, and they involved 7600 employees from 16 countries in this. They saw that 58% or almost ⅔ rd workers don’t normally experience any greenery in their office. The people who had office plants had a 15% better health and wellbeing outcome & also 6% better productivity than others.

Moreover, many people say that adding plants in the office will keep people more healthy and less prone to sickness. For example, there was a study back in the 1990s in Norway at the Agricultural Universit. The small study says that plants reduce 25% chances of getting illness symptoms.

  • Reduce noise levels

These days open-concept offices are too much in trend, but in this case, the employees also face too many distractions. It disturbs the workplace if there is too much noise or chatter outside. But, office plants or plants around can absorb noise and give the employees a better environment to concentrate.

Moreover, if the office has no other way to absorb noise or is made of hard surfaces like exposed concrete floors or walls, then plants are the only solution to curb this problem. You can place large pots of plants on the corners and the borders of the room to shun noise pollution.

  • Creative boost

The 2015 report also mentioned that planta and natural environments increase the creativity of workers by 15%. The Attention restoration theory says that natural surroundings or pictures of nature make the employees feel relaxed. As a result, their brains shift to separate processing modes, and they concentrate and perform better. Also, if you work for the creative industry and you need to deliver creative outputs every day, creative blocks are a major issue.

Here come the plants as help; they will inspire you and you out of that creative blockage.

  • Better air quality

We already know that plants give out oxygen and take in carbon dioxide while helping us in the process. They also pull out chemicals like benzene, formaldehyde, and trichloroethylene from the air and thus make the air cleaner. Further research by Dr. Fraser Torpy says that plants at home or office reduce carbon dioxide by 10%.

While you must look forward to planting some shrubs inside the office, but not all plants can survive indoors. So, check for the list of indoor plants before buying.
