Stains and spills are something really normal. What makes the difference is what you will do afterwards to avoid them becoming permanent stains. Getting the mess handled as quickly as possible guarantees that the spot will be cleaned efficiently and will not lead to further issues. However, all kinds of spills and spots are different, which require different techniques to get them sorted. In this article, you will find the most effective (and some surprising) solutions to handle the most common carpet issues in your household.

It is important to say that if your carpet needs to be repaired, we do not recommend doing it on your own. Using professional services will ensure you will achieve success without any risks. Elegant Carpet Repairs have the needed experience, education, and knowledge to handle all the issues you cannot handle by yourself! When it comes to patching, restretching and deep cleaning – try them out.

Which are the most effective products for carpet cleaning you can find at home? Yes, there are some of the daily used products in our household that can be certainly effective when it comes to some carpet damages.

Table of Contents

  • 1. Shaving cream
  • 2. Mixture of soda and vinegar
  • 3. Dish soap and hot water
  • 4. Corn starch
  • 5. Hydrogen peroxide and dish soap
  • Wrap up

1. Shaving cream

You would be thrilled to know that shaving cream can successfully remove all of the most common stains on your carpet. How does it work? You just need to apply it on the spot, leave for about 30 minutes, and then wipe it up with a clean cloth.

2. Mixture of soda and vinegar

For any stubborn stains, a solution that will certainly work is a 1:1 club soda and white vinegar mixture. You just need to pour it into a spray bottle, then apply it to the stain and leave it for at least half an hour. As soon as cleaned, you can dry the spot with a towel.

3. Dish soap and hot water

Oily stains can be really unpleasant and hard to remove. Even if you try removing the oil right after, it still might be a difficult task to undertake. Surprisingly, dish soap works with grease removal on carpets as good as it works on your dishes. Just mix it with hot water and spray it on the oily spot. Then absorb the excess with a cloth or towel. If the stain is deeper, you might need to repeat the process.

4. Corn starch

For oily mess on your carpet, a tested and working cleaning hack is to sprinkle corn starch on the spot after absorbing the excess oil. Let it sit on the spot for at least half an hour, and then remove it the way you want. The starch can fully absorb the oil, but keep in mind that you might need to clean it with dish soap after. But it works on removing the stubborn oily stains.

5. Hydrogen peroxide and dish soap

You can often find some old stains on the carpet that have not been taken care of on time. These can be one of the toughest ones, but no need to panic – it is not impossible. Create a solution of hydrogen peroxide and dish soap in a proportion to 2:1. Keep in mind that this solution is aggressive, so we recommend testing it on a small spot, to see how it will react with the type of your carpet. Hydrogen peroxide has the power to get the old and deep stains to the carpet’s surface, so it will effectively help in cleaning them.

PRO TIP: How to remove a gum stuck to the carpet? Put an ice cube on the gum for a minute, and then you can easily remove it.

Wrap up

There are different DIY solutions that would work perfectly in cleaning the most common spots and messes on your carpet. But sometimes, it is worth calling a specialist. Using a professional service for the toughest jobs like most of the repairs on the carpet will prove that you do not have to spend a fortune on replacing it. The experts from Pro Carpet Repairs will make your carpet look brand new, and you can have their assistance at affordable prices. So when in doubt – just call a specialist.
