Tips for Optimizing Employee Safety

While productivity and profitability remain at the forefront of most business owners’ minds, the leading priority should always be to optimize and maintain employee safety. This includes investing in the right Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and constantly scoping out and eliminating potential dangers within the workplace. Here are some tips to assist you in taking better care of all those in your employment starting immediately.

Change the company culture

Speaking about and ensuring safety at work should form a critical part of your daily undertakings. The more that you bring the importance of safety to your employees’ attention, the higher the chances of them following the correct protocol and feeling confident enough to report a hazard when it comes to their attention.

This culture of safety starts with effective training. Be sure to set up a stringent training routine for all new hires with the main goal being to educate them on how to prevent accidents and injuries when performing their duties.

Along with training new employees, it is important to continue refreshing your existing employees on the safety regulations and recommendations with bi-annual safety workshops.

Find a good quality PPE manufacturer and supplier

If your business operates within an industry that requires specialized PPE, such as the nuclear power industry, it is vital that you seek out a manufacturer and supplier that can deliver high quality for maximum peace of mind. For example, if you are looking for a radiation and containment products manufacturer, you cannot go wrong with Lancs Industries. This company can supply flexible non-lead shielding, lead wool blankets, and more.

Provide employees with incentives

Handing out rewards to workers who go out of their way to maintain strict safety requirements can have a tremendous impact on the health and safety of your company in general. Even if the rewards are not tangible, a simple verbal acknowledgement can make the world of difference.

Invest in signage

Signage outlining safety procedures and rules can act as a constant reminder for employees when they are immersed in their daily duties. Place them strategically all around your business premises and update them accordingly should any regulations change or become more complex over time.

Encourage wellness

Simply doing your best to prevent workplace accidents, injuries, and fatalities isn’t enough. Employee health and wellness forms a big part of workplace safety, too. Therefore, it is crucial that you educate your workforce on how to take better care of their physical and mental health. Encourage regular stretch breaks if your employees sit behind their desks for a significant portion of the day, invest in wellness programs (such as Friday afternoon yoga sessions), and consider purchasing ergonomic furniture and equipment to help counteract ailments like back pain and fatigue. Examples of this type of furniture and equipment include ergonomic office chairs and anti-fatigue industrial work mats.

Remember, employees who feel valued and safe are almost certain to work harder and remain at a specific organization for longer. In other words, when you start making workplace safety a priority, everybody wins!
