Is GAMSAT Compulsory?
Yes, GAMSAT is compulsory for you to enter any postgraduate program. For undergraduate programs, UCAT is compulsory. Without a minimum of 50 overall average and a minimum of 50 scores in each of the three sections of the GAMSAT, you cannot apply for postgraduate universities. Some selective Australian medical schools may accept Grade Point Average and interview as an alternate of GAMSAT, but that is very unlikely.

Why is GAMSAT so difficult?
Every year, more than 15,000 students apply for this exam. The success rate of the students who take the test is 15-20%. This means 80-85% are not able to clear the test. The GAMSAT is taken so the selection process is made more manageable for the faculty and they can choose the top best students. As the competition is great, the test is just as tough.
Students often try to avoid the test due to its well-known difficulty level. You need to understand that going around the test will not make your selection easier. - Time management is the key.
Each section has its time limit. Section 1 has a time limit of 100 minutes, section 2 has a limit of 60 minutes and section 3 has a limit of 150 minutes. You need to time each question accordingly.
Keep in mind; you should save at least 3-5 minutes to recheck.
- The practice may not lead you to perfection, but it will bring you close to it.
Attempt as many past papers as possible to practice your time management as well as your writing speed. Many PDF books are available subject-wise online. For example, ACER general chemistry book is very helpful for section 3 and it consists of past papers as well.
- Quality has always been better than quantity.
