Woolworth was an early pioneer of the outlet store, and one of the largest corporate store on the planet through most of the twentieth century. In 1963, Woolworth ventured into the shoe business with the purchase of Kinney Shoe Company, which made the store that Woolworth would ultimately become — Foot Storage. Despite Woolworth’s success, increased contest prompted its decrease during the 1980s, while its subsidiary Foot Storage continuously turned out to be more well known and more successful. In 1997, the last Woolworth store was closed and in 2001, the company changed its name to Foot Storage.
