Prior to diving into details on how to preserve each type of furniture, let’s examine the general measures we can take to maintain them.

Maintain clean upholstered furniture by regularly performing the following tasks:

  1. Clean your furniture regularly- Over time, dust and dirt begin to accumulate on your furniture. In order to lessen the chances of these harmful elements accumulating on your furniture, we recommend cleaning it regularly.

Your upholstered furniture can be vacuumed every week to prevent dust and dirt from getting settled. Without being removed, this dirt will embed itself in the upholstery fabric and deteriorate it. A soft microfiber towel can also be used to dust away the dirt after it is loosen with a soft brush.

  1. Spot Cleaning- No matter how clean your living room is, pets and kids can leave messes behind unless you keep them out of it altogether. That’s never going to happen. Consequently, spills and stains can occur at any time with the infrequency of accidents. In order to prevent the stain from going deep inside the fabric, spot clean spills with blotting paper as soon as possible. Depending on the type of fabric on your furniture, you can use a stain cleaner to remove the stain if it appears rigid. If you must use a harsh cleaner, remember to use a mild one instead of one that is too strong.
  2. Don’t expose furniture to direct sunlight – Sunlight directly hitting upholstered furniture, especially those made of silk or delicate materials, can damage them. Instead, keep them away from direct sunlight in a shady area. Your furniture can also be damaged by smoke and fumes from the kitchen. It is highly recommended that you have proper ventilation in your home to prevent smoke and fumes from damaging your furniture.

You can choose the most appropriate furniture type based on the type of use it receives and your lifestyle. All of the choices have almost the same kind of upkeep, whether you choose fabric, leather or leatherette.

Cleaning fabric furniture:

There are many types of fabrics to choose from, including cotton, microfiber, rayon, acetate, etc. Maintaining the fabric for a longer period of time is possible by following the direction of the manufacturers. • Make sure the upholstered furniture is vacuumed and that the seams are covered.
  • Clean all parts of the upholstered surface with the upholstered cleaner and allow it to work as directed by the manufacturer.
  • Finally, you can wipe away the cleaning solution with a microfiber towel after scrubbing the entire surface in a circular motion. Make sure that you use towels that won’t bleed color, or else your furniture fabric will get stained.
  • To remove stains from furniture fabric, use spray alcohol (isopropyl alcohol), which will soak up the stain.
  • Perchloroethylene should never be added to cleaning products. There are known health risks associated with this chemical. The best solvents for you to use are non-toxic and non-chlorinated ones.

Cleaning Leather Furniture:-

If any moisture remains while you clean leather, it will develop mildew, as leather is sensitive to moisture. You should dry out the leather completely after cleaning it.

  • You should vacuum your fabric furniture the same way. Make sure to clean over seams and crevices as well, where dust particles usually accumulate.
  • As spraying leather directly on its surface can be harsh, it should be avoided. Clean furniture surfaces by spraying it on a dry cloth or microfiber towel, then gently wiping them.
  • If you don’t use a good quality leather cleaner, your leather may become damaged. If you can’t locate a good leather cleaner in your area, you can use white vinegar instead.
