The Benefits of Having Electric Heating

It’s getting to that time of year where home heating is on for longer bouts in the mornings and evenings. And while it’s great to have a toasty living room or bedroom when it is blisteringly cold outside, having to rely on your central heating to keep everyone warm can be quite costly, especially when heating rooms that no one ever graces.

Savvy shoppers are now turning to electric heating alternatives as a means to heat specific parts of the home without having such a reliance on oil or gas. There is a little preconception that getting electric heating installed is costly and time-consuming, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. I want to highlight some of the benefits of having electric heating, and why it could work in your home.

No additional pipework

If you find that a radiator in a room isn’t getting heating as well as you’d hoped, you may think that having another one installed will involve costly pipework. You can avoid anything like carpet or floorboards being lifted simply by having a plug socket free in the room. Electric radiators are internally filled and sealed off in a closed unit. That means they don’t need to be connected to pipes to work, and only need plugging in to get going.

Freedom of movement

With no pipes needed, it also means you can get to play around with where radiators can go. Instead of needing a radiator to sit six inches off the ground, you could hang them up high or at different angles, so they don’t get in the way. A common example of this would be in living rooms where your main radiator is right behind your sofa. If it’s gone and you go fully electric, you have the freedom to place your radiator and furniture wherever you like.

Weighing up costs

Depending on where you live, electric heating may be more expensive than gas or oil. That is why it helps to weigh up whether an electric radiator is going to be a good fit for your home. You should be asking yourself whether this is a radiator you’ll be using infrequently if it only needs to be on when the central heating is off, and if the room already gets warm enough without needing an additional radiator.

Greater control

Because electric radiators are completely independent, you can get away with controlling them much more precisely than all your other radiators. Take a look at some of the smart electric radiators at Trade Radiators which have digital controls on the radiator instead of traditional valves. Digital controls can typically be synced with your phone over Wi-Fi. Have a radiator like this in your bedroom, and you have the freedom to turn it on while out at night, knowing the room will be nice and warm when you get home.

No maintenance

Electric radiators have to be closed off to keep heating fluid inside. Most won’t use water, and instead have a reactive fluid inside which expands when the electric heating element is turned on (think of it like boiling a tea kettle). Apart from having to dust it down every once in a while, you should find that electric radiators don’t need any maintenance.

No guessing games

One last point which I think truly highlights the benefits of electric heating as a good choice. We’ve all been in situations where a radiator isn’t working properly. Maybe air needs let out, or maybe there’s a problem somewhere else in the pipework which is causing it. It is a nuisance which usually requires investigating around the house to work out.

With electric radiators, this isn’t the case. When one isn’t working, you’ll know there is a problem solely with that heater and nothing else. How often have you ever heard of a heating negative turning into a positive?
